    2023 ACC News & Discussion

Was hoping to see if Cuse is really as bad as their ACC record indicates, but they're playing their backup QB and he's been gimpy. So they have no offense tonight. Starting QB Shrader may be back by our game. Their D seems solid considering they've thrown 4 picks but still held BC to 17...

Is the North Carolina win a turning point game?

The maddening thing about our inconsistency is that the pattern isn't just every other game, it's also within games. We have a habit of having a very successful quarter on both offense and defense, then collapsing the next quarter. Fortunately, we got the cycle right for the UNC game and had...

    UVA game thoughts

My thoughts on the UVA game are that our offense is going to need to overcome our defensive deficiencies in order to win. If Singleton and Smith both play and we continue to protect King, I like our chances. UVA has not shown that their offense can put up a lot of points, but then again, they...

    UVA game thoughts

"The gap between these two teams is not nearly as big as you want to believe." =/= "not worst". Your post distorts what @yeti92 said and comes across as trolling. You can do better.

    UVA game thoughts

I doubt this will settle the argument, but there is room for some middle ground here and I believe both these things are true: 1. As @leatherneckjacket stated, Maryland is much better than BG by most rating systems if you focus on those with the most meaningful data at this point in the season...

    Stats models and rankings

Thanks. That seems as good as any, and is in the middle of the range of some of the other rankings. Our SoS at the beginning of the season was likely higher but has dropped some due to the generally poor performance of the majority of ACC teams we play, including Clemson.

Rather than continue the SoS discussion tangent in the ACC Schedule thread, I decided to bring my question here. I don't know the source of @Randy Carson's SoS numbers (where we are slotted at 42), but after checking various sites, they are all over the map. FEI provides 3 different rankings...

    New ACC Schedule Format Reveal

This is a reasonable position to take on scheduling preferences. But to quote Haynes, at the end of the day, @RonJohn's point is also the best counter to my proposed easier OOC schedule to get us bowl-eligible. If we are still struggling with 5-7 seasons 5 years from now, we've got bigger...

    New ACC Schedule Format Reveal

I, for one, would like to see us get to the point where we're not coining names for our wins with the word "Miracle" in them.

    New ACC Schedule Format Reveal

Again, your post is full of strawman arguments that no one besides yourself is making (a. & b.). Your point c. is valid with respect to the unexpected loss to BG, but I don't think anyone, even yourself, believes that is a normal expected outcome for future seasons. Your point d. is...

    New ACC Schedule Format Reveal

After previously allowing that your opinion is valid, I didn’t expect such a snarky response. But I’ll take the bait. You have completely missed the mark in your interpretation of what those of us in favor of more wins are suggesting. No one is proposing anything close to your strawman...

    New ACC Schedule Format Reveal

Your point, which I agree with, highlights what I think is the primary reason for the disparity in opinions on this topic. Some fans are evaluating it based on personal preference for game experiences, while others (and I’m one of these) are thinking more strategically along the lines of what’s...

    New ACC Schedule Format Reveal

Sure. And over the long haul, do you think that expecting to win as underdogs and lose as a favorite is a good way to build a program?

    New ACC Schedule Format Reveal

We build our fan base by winning, going to bowls, and getting more eyeballs to see the team winning. How many fans do you think we gained by the loss to Ole Miss? I think we may just need to agree to disagree on this.

    Stats models and rankings

GT vs. UVA win probability is about as close to a toss-up as I've seen. So you may as well throw out the stats and look at things like injury reports. If Singleton and Dontae both play, I like our chances.

    New ACC Schedule Format Reveal

More scheduling thoughts - I get it, many of our most memorable games as fans are the ones where we, as huge underdogs, rose up and beat top-tier teams. FSU in 2015 comes to mind. But we were huge underdogs because we won so few games! Is this our goal as a program - to win so little that we...

    New ACC Schedule Format Reveal

Somehow this thread has gone from scheduling an easier OOC game than Ole Miss in order to increase our chances of making a bowl game as we build the program, to canceling the GT-UGA series as well as all the better ACC schools. Give me a break. Facts: Last 4 years' win record is 3-3-3-5. In...

We won't build the program by missing bowl games either.

    New ACC Schedule Format Reveal

Outside of the playoffs, bowl selection is based on W/L placement within the conference, not by who you beat. So wins against better conference teams count the same as against lesser conference teams. For OOC, since we already play uga every year, we need to schedule to achieve bowl eligibility...

Haynes King Update: How Do We Feel About Him?

Yeah, they didn't even bother to find a photo. That's some elite company on the list, though.
