  1. Recruiting Bias...247

How the ESPN 2013 All ACC team was rated by ESPN coming out of high school. In summary only one 5*, eleven 4* and eight 3*. Pay particular attention to the OL. http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/67010/all-acc-where-they-stood-as-recruits
  2. CBG

Yeah the zone is killing us. IMO the problem is not the X & O's but the players. None of the guards are really comfortable taking the 3 point shot and are reluctant to take it. The inside guys are getting the ball back out to them but they just do not pull the trigger. Losing Jorgenson...
  3. Sewak

    Whatever.
  4. Sewak

If Sewak leaves who will come in and be able to teach the OL the fine points of blocking Johnson's version of the spread option? Just asking.
  5. Can we talk about So. Poole?

As of today this is next season's team. Some guys will need to play out of position. Heyward Jorgenson Tadric Jackson Bolden Poole, Jr. Georges-Hunt Carter Robert Sampson Stephens Ben Lammers
  6. Can we talk about So. Poole?

Real shame. He was one of the better high school guards in his recruiting class. Is anyone available to sign in the late signing period in April?
  7. Why we had a 7-6 record

That is what I am talking about - wins and losses. But wins and losses start with the talent available. Consider the numbers: The last 3 coaches are 143 - 97 - 0. The previous 6 coaches were 146 - 156- -8. Including the Heisman years GT through today has won 59% of its games. Heisman and...
  8. GT@WF

To quote SecretAgentBuzz - "...play a Fr. PG with little experience for the entire game!" Yeah! And he should be a second year PG with a year under his belt. But again, the injury bug that has so plagued this team the last 2 seasons.
  9. Why we had a 7-6 record

Johnson is recruiting as well or better than the previous 8 head coaches. That said, I agree that recruiting at GT is a problem. GT has not recruited at a top 25 level, with the 2007 exception, in over 40 years. There is more at play here than recruiting ability, which we have discussed ad...
  10. GT@WF

Nice win on the road, especially with the leading scorer out, not to mention 4 other scholarship players out.
  11. Glad I found this place

Welcome aboard. Just football or all college sports?
  12. The day GT sports changed

Fascinating discussion guys. Go back to Volker's remarks at 12:20 pm. IMO he basically has it nailed. Prior to 1970 GT won about 60% of its games over the preceding half century. Since 1970 53%. And that 53% includes O'Leary, Gailey and Johnson (combined 19 years) winning at a combined 60%...
  13. GT vs NC State

Miller is not a player who creates his own shots. He lets the game come to him. Get the ball to him in his zone and you will get double figure scoring. Can't wait till Stephens Junior year.
  14. Record when scoring 30+ 25+, and 20+ points

The defense was better last year thanks to coaching. Looking ahead, the defense will get better as the talent of the 40 or so players on defense gets better. If we get a couple of the players targeted this recruiting season the talent level will rise.
  15. GT - Tulane series cancelled

Boise will be in town the previous weekend (8/28) at the Dome to play Ole Miss - and they have a TBA on that date in their tentative schedule. Maybe we can get them to just stay in town. Yeah, I know, just dreaming.
  16. GT - Tulane series cancelled

I do not necessarily disagree - or agree, I just do not know. Interesting that the GT release said "Georgia Tech, ... expects to announce the opponent as early as next week." Next week is pretty soon. Have they, in fact, had something in the works as a backup? Just speculating.
  17. Justin Thomas and the offense

JT height - weight on the last roster released was 5'11 - 179 lbs. Believe it was released last August. This is not an issue. The issue is his tendency to carry the football like a loaf of bread.
  18. Morgan Bailey officially not returning

By my count that leaves us with only 10 OL on scholarship. Is this correct? (I have Brigham as being on scholarship - not sure correct) This is way to few. Going back to Bobby Ross - "must have 16 OL on scholarship at all times."
  19. GT adds a walk-on QB

Boomergump - I would agree on the speed factor - he is listed at 4.5 - only with a strong wind at his back. But, yeah, he can run the offense. And if he never gets beyond scout team, he will be a valuable member of, and contribute to, the team. This is a win win for both GT and Chase.
