Last year against UNC the good guys won 38-28... Put up 570 yards of offense, including 465 rushing yards.. They lost 3 fumbles and got stuffed on 4th and short because of bad snaps a couple of times, otherwise its a blowout... Tobias Oliver had 120 rushing yards with 2 rushing touchdowns, and...
That offense is not a gimmick... it is probably the most efficient offense ever created and it guaranteed to work if executed properly... The better players you have, the better it works. Every player thinking they can play in the NFL basically killed it in major college football... but its...
Vespidae,
Depends on what you mean by "compete"... Is it the goal of every program to win national championships? Lets look at this logically for a second... What gives Georgia Tech, specifically, the best chance to win?
To me, its a smothering defense and the triple option offense. Woody was...
I am not sure anyone really expected to be the ACTUAL last place offense in college football at any point this year, did they? 13 points per game. That is dead last.
Temple is mediocre at best... they just got their *** kicked by Buffalo the week before and barely beat a Maryland team that has completely fallen apart.
Gave up 20 to South Carolina
Gave up 25 to Miami
24 to Wake Forest
21 to Clemson
34 to Appalachian State
Take out that App State game, and they have played a tough schedule and only given up 22 per game.
Lost to Wake by 6... App State by 3... Clemson by 1...
This is a good football team...
Assuming Georgia Tech brings in some "pro style" quarterbacks this year... You have to imagine Oliver, Johnson, Yates, and Graham will all transfer out. Someone will go to Georgia Southern because they run the option... New Mexico... some other places that have running QB schemes.
Unfortunately he's not coaching what would have been a pretty loaded GT team, and that apparently has a good defense this year... Oliver, Kirvonte Benson, Jordan Mason, Dontae Smith, Jerry Howard, Parker Braun, etc.
The offense has scored 52 points in 4 games... That is 13 points per game. That is going to rank around dead last in the country, because Rice was averaging 13.5 points per game but just scored 20 yesterday where Georgia Tech offense scored 0.
Georgia Tech has 7 touchdowns on the year. Some...
Say what? Nebraska is not running hardly anything with 3 options. They may have a few pitch plays mixed in, zone read kinda stuff, but they aren't faking a hand-off to a dive man, and running a QB and RB out wide with a keep or pitch option.
Kansas, Illinois, Syracuse, Arkansas, Nebraska, Rutgers, and a few others are all great candidates for it... Of course, there are lots of mid major schools that should be doing it.
I'll respond with the same thing I've been saying since CPJ made his announcement..... moving away from the option is a bad decision that will cause extreme short-term pain and remove anything that was unique or special about Georgia Tech football... If Georgia Tech only wins 2 games this year...
They ran for like 450 yards against USF without their best player... Benson. Its just not a comparable situation. They averaged 8 yards a play. It was a thrashing and Oliver never even had to pitch the ball.
They lost to that South Florida team because they returned 2-3 kickoffs for touchdowns... Otherwise Tech wins easily. The offense put up 602 yards on South Florida last year. USF was also better last year, but this team can't do jack against Citadel, or South Florida for that matter.
Repeat...
