If hired who will Whissenhunt get as his O.C.? D.C.?

OC - Philip Montgomery from Tulsa (who runs the Art Briles - Baylor Offense) DC - Todd Graham (runs a 3-3-5 defense and is currently unemployed) He would be smart to hire coaches who have had head coaching experience at the college level, since he has none. Matt Canada, Rich Rodriguez, etc...

How about Matt Canada? Very strong run-based offense... Known as being innovative.

All, thanks for the good times, and this will be a fun experiment

I saw a stat somewhere ... GASO has a 72% win percentage running the option... 17% when not running it... Good example there. They brought it back this year and went 9-3 in the first year.. They also said they only implemented 35% of the offense this year too.

I don't disagree with your sentiment... But I could apply the logic at most schools. There is no reason why Nebraska has been irrelevant for 18 years, but they have been.. there is no reason for Illinois to be horrendous as a program, but they are. Miami.... Arkansas... A&M... Same thing.

All, thanks for the good times, and this will be a fun experiment

I am definitely a fan of option football.... I've followed it at the service academies, GASO, New Mexico, Nebraska, etc. It is my preferred style, especially at some schools... In fact, I think a good amount of schools would be better off running it than what they have been failing at for 18...

The high temp in Minneapolis is 15 on Thursday this week... What does one do in 15 degree weather for 4 months?

Lets say Whisenhunt hires an OC to install the spread offense seen at most colleges.... That pretty much guarantees Lucas Johnson the starting QB spot, and probably results in transfer for Tobias Oliver and James Graham. Kirvonte Benson and Dontae Smith becoming the primary RB's.... Thunder and...

Hey.... just throwing this out there... The defensive coordinator at Georgia Southern (Scot Sloan) was the defensive coordinator at Appalachian State the year before, and was the recruiting coordinator. Lunsford was the recruiting coordinator for GASO and Auburn... So they have both been...

I would prefer Troy Calhoun from Air Force if we are going to hire a service academy coach. Better offensive system.

Man... they need to hurry up and hire a coach. I am being kind of obsessed with this thread.

How much rebuilding are you willing to tolerate?

A little different angle from the other coaching threads.... Because GT has run the option for 11 years, and recruiting season is essentially over for 2019 season, if a coach is brought in with a pro-style system or spread passing system, it is possible that the team is terrible next year... As...

Would Whisen-The-Hut call his own plays? Or would he likely hire an OC and just manage the team and program? Hopefully they Packers firing McCarthy saved Tech from hiring him.

When you take a big head coaching job I assume you want to take the safest one possible... These are already wealthy men.. does he have a better chance to succeed and further his career at Georgia Tech, or does he think he can do that at Miami South Carolina Arkansas etc

So if you are Tony Elliot, maybe the hottest coordinator name on the market... Do you wait for FSU, Miami, Arkansas, Auburn, etc to open... Or do you take Georgia Tech, Louisville, etc this year? This seems like an off year for coaching jobs for a guy like Elliot.
