Looks like we have news on Kenderius Whitehead

I agree with you but I feel confident that Freeman will be in the 2-deep and get plenty of reps this season. At least now, he might not have to be the starter and carry the bulk of the load.

    Coaches poll is out

SC's backup QB had to play a good bit last year when Shaw was hurt so they have a much better idea than usual regarding their QB play. And they return a lot of talent on that team; they should be very good.

The difference between 45% completions and 54% completions

But that's just the point. Sometimes the defense won't give you the run game. I know people like to trot out the saying "Well, Coach Johnson has seen every type of defense there is and there is an answer for every one of them." And that might be true. But if the defense has 9 men in the box...

The difference between 45% completions and 54% completions

When someone focuses on completion percentage in this offense, you can often find yourself being mislead by the data. In an offense throwing the ball away to avoid taking a sack or because all your receivers were covered doesn't have a great effect on a QB's completion percentage when they're...

Thinking about the unusually high attrition of late

If you look up the GTAA drug use policy, it's pretty clear what happened. 1st offense: counseling 2nd offense: miss 20% of season (2 games) 3rd offense: kicked off team Link

Thinking about the unusually high attrition of late

I understand and wasn't trying to be argumentative. I was told that MA was the only one CPJ had used an exception with the Hill on. For what it's worth, I was told that Custis wasn't even an exception. He was one of the borderline cases but would have been admitted. His problem was with the...

Thinking about the unusually high attrition of late

I'm not sure to what you're referring. I said that the only one of the 14 we lost who was an exception was MA. JHD was a normal enrollee. Statistically speaking, we lost more "normal athletes" and people who left because they didn't like the offense than exceptions.

Academic casualties will happen to the smartest of students when they don't go to class.

Thinking about the unusually high attrition of late

I'm reasonably confident that Myles Autrey was the only exception out of the 14 and he never even made it into the school. So why are we talking about tightening restrictions on exceptions?

ESPN: Too Negative at Georgia Tech?

A quick search on ESPN shows the following for 2013 that I consider mediocre or worse, yet were in the top 20 offenses: Link #6. Fresno State #8. Marshall #13. Colorado State #15. Bowling Green #17. Arizona State #20. Old Dominion For what it's worth, Tech is 44 on that list, so you're...

ESPN: Too Negative at Georgia Tech?

I've been a GT fan since I started school there in 1984 as well so I am intimately familiar with the challenges that a GT coach faces. However, I would contend that the number of players who are being drafted to the NFL under CPJ is far fewer than under any of the coaches since I became a...

ESPN: Too Negative at Georgia Tech?

No. I think we got lucky that the ball was snapped on the ground instead of to the punter. But at that point, we had the best athlete on the field and he made a play. That's my point. Luck plays happen for you and against you all the time. Whether or not you're able to capitalize on them...

ESPN: Too Negative at Georgia Tech?

Very simple. We really haven't been that good as a team nor do we have better athletes than most of our opposition.

ESPN: Too Negative at Georgia Tech?

I agree that it was lucky. But let's remember that they put themselves in position to make the game winning play by being within striking distance at the end of the game. Same thing with that ending to the Alabama game. It was a lucky return but they had played Bama to a tie to that point...

ESPN: Too Negative at Georgia Tech?

It has been my experience as a coach that really good teams tend to get "luckier" than mediocre teams more often than not because they either have better athletes or do a better job of being in the correct position to make that lucky play.

    Offensive Tempo

That's incorrect. The referees put the ball in play as soon as the yardage markers are moved to the spot of the ball if the offense doesn't make a sub. You mentioned Oregon. If you've watched them play, you know that they run to the LOS and get over the ball, then the whole team turns to look...

    Offensive Tempo

If the offense doesn't make a substitution, they do indeed put the ball in play and signal ready. The only way the referees hold up play is if the offense makes a substitution. In that case, the defense is allowed to make one as well. Otherwise, the defense runs players out to sub at their...
