All spring practices are interesting, but this one seems even more so to me. Maybe it is because we are coming off such a bad season. Many are coming back off injury, RS, transfer, or early enroll. We will look a lot different, that is for sure.
I am glad to hear this about Griffin. I really wanted Will to stay at OT. I guess this means he will be. He just runs so well. We need that at the OT spot. A second year without a job change should do him wonders.
Rodney Williams was fast as all get out too. That made him pretty good in coverage as well. If memory serves, he chased down some guys to save long returns that other punters simply wouldn't have. My only complaint about Williams was consistent hang time. Brooks had him in that regard.
I am not sure where I land on this. We simply HAVE TO ESTABLISH a dominating presence at BB. Having that much competition increases the chances it will happen. However, we need more depth in some other places too. It is a tough call.
Good find 'Ballin. There is some stuff in that write up that I agree with and stuff that I challenge. Describing White as slow makes me giggle. In any case, his electronically timed numbers are there now, so the 40 time (whatever it is worth) is published. By that metric he was very competitive...
Sorry. I know I haven't around much lately. To those who say speed wasn't much of an issue last year at AB, I beg to differ. There were tons of plays that were really close to breaking the first defensive wave that were stopped due to nothing else than a plain lack of speed. It is what it is...
We are a different team since we went away from our usual PGs. It is hard to put into words how amazing MGH has been transitioning into that role after having played the 2 or 3 for his entire career. It is pretty much equivalent to asking a boxer to switch to southpaw and just try and make it...
On offense, it is hard to imagine JT or Burden being unseated at their respective positions. I guess they are as close to a "lock" as we have. In the next tier down from that in the "likely to start" category we have Bryan (I like him at OT) and Jeune at WR. Devine is in control of his own...
QB: JT
BB: Dwyer
AB: Godhigh, O. Smith
WR: Thomas, Smelter
OT: Bailey (when he was on the field), Gardner
OG: Uzzi, Mason
C: Burden
S: Burnett, Golden
CB: White, Thomas
LB: Attaochu, Nealy, Watts
DE: Johnson, Morgan
DT: Walker, Gotsis
If Thomas caught that ball, all we had was a chance to beat UGA with a first down from, what, the 15 yard line (?), without hardly any time left needing a TD. His drop ended our chances, for sure, but, had he made the catch, the game was still far from decided.
I haven't spent as much time with this class as I would have liked at this point, reviewing film etc. After having read this thread (great job everybody btw) I decided to go back and watch a few and offer a few thoughts.
I have been most concerned about DL for a while (no secret) and who we...
Harper, there is a lot to like about this post. As has been stated on here a thousand times (I'm sure people are tired of hearing it) I am not real keen on the star system and don't have much respect for its value. With that said, the importance of getting the right players for our program...
I am under no illusion that we have as much talent on our current roster as say, Alabama. However, if you think the ultimate effect on the program of the 2016 class, for either GT or UGA, will be decided by these rankings, well, I can't help you. Our kids look like they can play to me. We won't...
It should be interesting. My guess is that MLD stays at AB. He is just as fast as Anthony Allen and AA did fine out there. MLD was physical enough to block well, and sometimes did, but there were some assignment and technique things that plagued him along the way. That kind of stuff will get...
Take the times with a grain of salt. Well, you can count on the NFL times being good. Of all the times listed for GT athletes I would give the 100m times probably a little more credence. Look, as others have said, methods matter a lot. The important thing to focus on is this: we already know...
There were several factors in play last year. The only legit speed we had on the field was at BB and QB. Teams were simply not afraid of getting beat deep or outrun on the edges. So, you fire up the middle and hope to blow some plays up. Most of the big plays we hit last year were on dump offs...
I would also like to add that if we were a different school than GT, we probably would have been able to RS Gotsis as a frosh and we would still have him next year. Assuming no injury, by next year, Adam would be a force.
