  1. #UNCvsGT Postgame

Harris actually had a good game IMO. He was bull rushing, the first to push the pocket several times driving Howell to the other side where others got the sack. I was impressed several times with how far he pushed his blocker back.
  2. Jordan Yates

On the surface your stats make some good points. If you look a little deeper you hear the UNC coach publicly saying that UNC played their best D football in the first half and their worst in the second half (some of this was Sims and some not). We played a very physical game and subbed a lot. As...
  3. Jordan Yates

I respect your points. No argument with Sims "earning " the start (that can be fixed among Collins, Yates, and Sims). Yet to be determined if Sims has overcome some bad 2020 habits. Coach P does not have a good record of getting ahead early so I am not sold on that strategy. No question Sims is...
  4. Jordan Yates

I can see your point if you think Sims can continue the UNC performance for 60 minutes without reverting to turnovers and some slow or questionable decisions. On the other hand Yates seems to be a calming force early in the game and more likely will give Pitt the first opportunities to make a...
  5. GT Defense

M Scott, Harris, Kennard, and Griffin were forces in that DL as well. I would expect to see Stone and White in there at some point. Quality depth.
  6. Corner turned?

If what you expect happens we may have to go back to Yates for the short passing game and controlling the clock. I hope the coaches are in tune with their options and not just locked into their long term plan with Sims (I agree with Sims being the future but we still need to win now).
  7. GT Defense

Big shout out to my favorite player, CB Tobias Oliver. On the big fourth and one play there was not a wide out on Oliver's side. He moved up into an outside LB position, on the snap he stepped into the hole about a yard behind the LOS, avoided a block from the motioning TE, hit the ball carrier...
  8. Jordan Yates

I can also see using Yates effectively late in games to run the clock when we are protecting a lead.
  9. Corner turned?

I think you pegged the turning point OK and a major contributing factor was our very physical play, subbing on D to stay fresh, and our quality depth overall on D. We wore them down and took over physically and as you pointed out, we gained confidence previously missing.

To be eligible receiver he could not wear 57. Those numbers are for non eligible interior lineman so the refs can call illegal lineman downfield from their numbers?
  11. Officiating Was Terrible

I saw the game in person and watched it on TV twice. On the last look I saw what actually happened on the Howell "drop". He pulled his feet off the ground on purpose just before he was dropped. Maybe he was looking for another roughing penalty call.
  12. GT Defense

I think the changes to the defense have freed up the LBs to better play up to their potential (such as Charlie Thomas more in space and more free to use his natural ability). We are playing way more young talent on the line resulting in wearing down the other team and creating competition to...
  13. Where the haters?

Well the haters were right what they ranted about. Tonight we drastically improved the substitutions, the ST play and kicking, the clock management, the inability to score TDs in the red zone, the getting O and D play calls in on time, the sideline confusion making decisions, the questionable...
  14. #UNCvsGT Postgame

Read lots of good stuff but would like to add kudos for #11 and #31 who were bringing good pressure. #11 late was especially disruptive with a real bull rush chasing Howell out of the pocket and #31 was right there on the pile on several of those sacks. Earlier in the game #95 was putting on...
  15. Corner turned?

Sims played really great. He came in about the time we started to fight back in this game. And he led the way in the fight. We seemed to wear down UNC as the game went on and our O and our D got stronger with time. UNC seemed the more physical team early (our runs were short, we did not protect...
  16. #UNCvsGT Postgame

I believe interior linemen have to wear certain numbers (I believe 50-90?) If they want to line up as an eligible receiver they must : change numbers? report to the ref first? or both?
  17. #UNCvsGT Postgame

You can do that but have to report it to the refs first.
  18. Hire Geoff Collins

I did not see anything wrong with our huddles against Clemson (except when the subs were sent in and the play was not down on the goal line).
  19. Hire Geoff Collins

My point was first down inside the 10 , not when getting to the 20.
  20. Jordan Yates

I would go with Yates to start and stay for at least a half unless the game gets out of hand. As long as we are up or no more than 14 points down I would stay with Yates. More than 14 behind I would give Sims the ball if he is 100% healthy. The hard decision then might be the next start. At this...
