  1. Dikembe Mutombo passes away

Condolences to Jaeden and his family. To Ryan and his family as well.
  2. Analytics post mortem

Just from a personal watching standpoint it feels like Offense about the same as last year. Last year was more explosive but also more TO's. Defense definitely better - rush defense much better, sacks and TO's down from last year. Special Teams - well down from last year. Put the 3 together and...
  3. GT VT Post Game

Some notes on our offense. GT has scored on its first or second possession of the game every game this season. It has failed to score on the next drive against every FBS opponent. It has failed to score more than twice in the first half against every power conference team (incl ND). Third...
  4. 2024 non-GT games thread

This is a nice paragraph from an SI article on why a Wednesday night game actually was important - ultimately because Liberty lost and there fore is eliminated from any CFP discussion. Few expected Kennesaw State to be the team to crush Liberty’s dreams. After all, the Owls are playing their...
  5. 2024 non-GT games thread

I would say definitely knocks them out of any CFP consideration. They were not at the top of the pecking list of G5 teams to begin with due to having a really soft schedule. Losing to one of the weakest FBS teams is going to wreck any chance they had. Realistically the G5 team is likely to come...
  6. Early Line - GT v VPI

Keep in mind from a raw number standpoint GT is closer to Rutgers at #60 than it is to Miami at #5 offensively. There are some pretty big gaps in those metrics.
  7. Zach Pyron is a tough dude!

We have scored a TD on our 1st or 2nd drive in every game against a FBS opponent this year. The issue has been getting the second TD has taken some time. We have not been able to score on 2 consecutive drives in the first half pretty much all year.
  8. QB King out vs Hokies

Key says King is still day to day, not ruled out for VT. https://www.ajc.com/sports/georgia-tech/georgia-tech-quarterback-situation-still-in-flux/ESXQMQCHHRAWZBWKRBYNZKI7PM/
  9. Early Line - GT v VPI

if we want to use FEI as a comparison. Our offense is currently ranked #18 nationally, VT's defense is ranked #35. Our defense is ranked #81, VT offense #39 Our Special Teams #122, VT Special teams #19. Overall GT is at #49 and VT #30 This feels like the 3rd straight game where ST could be a...
  10. Where do we end up

I believe Shelley was a scratch before the game. Franklin went out but came back in. It was definitely a very physicaly game. VT will be a tough test. Another team with a great RB - maybe the best we have faced all season paired with a QB who is a capable runner and thrower.
  11. Zach Pyron is a tough dude!

I've looked into this before. 30 (actually 31) is basically the number of passes that is the break point. When we have thrown the ball more than that, we have lost almost every game. Less than 32 and we win almost all the games. Looking at FBS opponents since King became starting QB. 31 or less...
  12. Where do we end up

I was thinking 6-6 +-1 before the season. Still thinking that. I don't expect us to lose out, but 2 more regular season wins is probably the ceiling for this team. I'll post on this later, but it feels like this team is right about in the same area overall as last season in terms of its overall...
  13. Where do we end up

He looked like he took a shot late in the fourth that definitely had him wincing a little. Didn't keep him from continuing to play.
  14. Postgame: ND 31-GT 13

This game was about what I expected. I thought Zach played relatively well for his first start this year, he made some mistakes, especially later in the game, but he did not get much support. I was most concerned that our lines were going to get dominated and that it what happened. Our OL was...
  15. Postgame: ND 31-GT 13

FWIW, all sports teams report tickets sold, not attendance in seats. A recent study put the ratio of attendance to tickets sold for FBS at 71%. If you take the 59K and take that avg % that would be 42K. Now, given the opponent it was probably higher than that, but if you put the ratio at 80-85%...
  16. 2024 offseason

Bennett has resigned at UVA. Basically felt like he wasn't the best coach for UVA in the new environment. https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/virginia-coach-tony-bennett-chokes-back-tears-explaining-decision-to-retire-it-was-time/ "I don't think I'm equipped in this new way to...
  17. GT Athletics Budget

"Distribution of funds from the ACC has been key. The league paid out nearly $42 million to Tech is 2023, whereas Tech now is expected to receive $48 million from the conference in 2025." This is an important point to counter the kooks. For some reason the kooks seem to think that the ACC's...
  18. Tech - uga in 2025 at MB Stadium

No I would not. But we could certainly schedule one big name opponent a year to be at MBS if they are willing to pony up enough money.
  19. If King can’t go

Because your #1 goal is to try to win the game and I don't think Philo gives you the best shot. He hasn't even played against an FBS opponent yet, and the FCS opponent he did get in the game was an awful team - one of the worst in the country. They are winless and have been blownout in most of...
  20. Tech - uga in 2025 at MB Stadium

This was likely a very easy decision for Batt. According to the AJC article this is worth $10M vs $2M for a home game. That $8M is 1/3 of the likely NIL amount needed yearly. Given GT has a small fanbase (GT is the smallest public P4 school in the country in terms of undergrad population -...
