What whiskey are you drinking?

Tomknight debuted Eagle Rare on p 10 of UNC Post Game. I’m drinking Broken Barrel Heresy Rye. Other recommendations?

I think I did a big recommendation by price point a couple of years ago. Although the prices have gone up on some of the choices, it should still be pretty good.

Standard sippers you can find on the shelf: Knob Creek 9, WT101

The best craft bourbons at a reasonable price are New Riff and Woodinville, and for a little more money for the extra malted barley, Old Elk.

Not a fan of Redbreast 10, but every time my wife comes back from visiting family in Ireland, she picks up a bottle of Redbreast 15 from Duty Free. That is a beautiful pour. Too expensive here in the States.

Knob Creek is good but I personally like Buffalo Trace over all the others.

BT has a unique flavor profile (similar to ER) that people either really like it or don't. I fly United. I usually have 2-3 doubles of BT each time I fly. It's good to be in 1st class and a ride when you land.

OGD 114 and ET BiB are two really great bourbons especially for the price.
Both of them seem to jump $2-$3 every time they restock. People are finding out.
My guilty pleasure is Evan Williams BiB. The price is so embarrassingly low that you don’t want to tell your friends what you’re drinking, but they won’t complain if they don’t see the label.
It’s easy to be pleased with a $60 bottle. The magic is in finding the $25-$35 bottle. The quest is ongoing…

I’ve mentioned before that James Henry is surprisingly good. It was $35 a bottle but I haven’t bought any in a long while since moving from the north Georgia mountains where it’s made.

They make a nice Rye also but, again, I’ve been away for awhile.

Makers 46 is aged longer and is finished with more infused oak to give it a much richer finish. I don’t like the regular Makers but 46 is worth the extra $10. Blue Note rye is about $34. They have a Juke Joint bourbon around $32 and their top of the line is their Crossroads at over $50. The Broken Barrel is also around $35 and is finished with sherry cask staves. It has a slight dark chocolate finish, at least to me.

Case in point- OGD 114… its what becomes basil hayden when they water the crap out of it. not to mention, you can buy OGD for $30 but basil Hayden will cost you $40+… buy OGD and water it yourself. I don’t care for basil hayden at all. I have a couple bottles that were gifted to me (and I appreciate) but I give to guests who think they like bourbon

I totally agree on BH. Their dark rye is the worst thing I’ve ever tasted. Why would anyone add port directly to bourbon. Yuck.
