UGA preparation

What worries me though after listening to the radio show, and this could be the case this week is that as CPJ said they practice all of this, put in the hours coaching and prepping the team and then the product on the field flops. Missed assignments, tackles, busted plays that were practiced over and over. CPJ doesn't seem to have an answer to that. I just hope whatever the team did to prep for VT they do for UGA
Agree. It is hard to watch something happen that you didn't teach or specifically told someone not to do.

CPJ is not the coach CBR was either. Bobby Ross is no quitter his dream when he came to GT was to one day coach in the NFL. if Coach Ross had of stayed at GT he would have been very successful .People at tech told me they just thought they had been around good football coaches till CBR but he was the BEST.

I like to believe our fans, like our players are of a different breed. I want to believe they are more realistic and practical than fans of the factory schools.

But, the more of this "crap" I read tells me we have a fairly large group of "fans" that do not understand our school and the world/society we currently live in.

We can try to catch lighting in a bottle, and we saw it happen in 1990. It happened to some degree a few years back when we beat MSU in the Orange Bowl.

But, to think we can do this year in and year out, with all of the unbelievably difficult challenges to recruiting that the Institute has to offer is really not realistic. Is it o.k. to want more? I think so, but it has to be dampened somewhat by the realization of what we are trying to do - compete at the highest level against football factories when we are a top realm public STEM school Again, other than the military academies, NO other STEM schools even attempt this.

I am a 1985 grad, and when I was at Tech, the only reason most of us went to the games was to throw frisbees at the band at halftime, as the teams were so, so bad. I guess that makes me appreciate what we have had over the past 30 years or so, with BR, GO, and now PJ. I was not a CG fan, although I do believe he was a genuinely good man.

Ultimately, coaches can coach up lesser talent, and I believe that is what our coaches do year in and year out. But, it is very difficult to overcome the talent gap that our team sees against most P5 schools. I will agree that this past Saturday was BAD, bad on the coaches and players. Duke does not have a large talent gap on GT, and so, I am o.k. with blaming PJ and the other coaches to some degree for that one.

I always say that when Bammer loses, you know exactly where to put the blame - sa(t)an. He has more talent and depth than ANYONE else, so when his team loses, he should get most of the blame. When our team wins against a VPI or Clem's Son or UGAG, like last year, PJ and our coaches should get a lion's share of the credit, as they do this by outcoaching the other team. (scheme and coaching players up)

I guess I am through venting now.

Its why gol got worn out too. Ask him.

The school wont change. Need a president first. We dont have one. We have a guy who warms a chair and loves status quo and perks.

The AD can try. But good luck. facilities is easier to touch than headcount. Had to do with how you ammoratize and depreciate capitol invesments which hiring staff is not

Bottom line. Until we have a football shado staff of 9-12 not including strength team. We will always be a flukey team.

Then. You need to add a few more good assistants in the fold. Our assistant coaches are really not p5 quality if you look at the total group. Its all about paying em. Our DC is paid very competitively. No one else really is. Some guys should retire

Paul is irritated. Eventually he will retire or leave . Probably sooner than later imo. We will see after next year what happens. If he is lame duck or not. Contract ends 2020 iirc. Hard to recruit the 2019 class with that in limbo
Have heard a couple other people say this about O' Leary.

I don't recall Coach Ross staying anywhere longer than 5 years. My understanding is that he was looking for a new job before the 1991 season because he was tired of fighting the same battles that Johnson fights now.

I’m not sure this is the year for the coach and a bunch of the fans to be harping on how so many of us have unrealistic expectations. Most of us that are upset aren’t angry that we aren’t 9-1 right now. Disappointed in what could have been, sure. But if we had losses to Clemson, Miami, and UVA on the road and were sitting at 7-3 I, myself would be disappointed, but wouldn’t be that upset. But the problem is when you add in the other two losses to Duke and Tennessee, the team has severely underachieved.

As for my expectations...I expect to see our team play hard, I expect a clean program, and I expect not to have losing seasons. That is not unrealistic, considering that it’s pretty much been the case for the last 20 years. Win Saturday and my expectations for the program are satisfied...even if that means I’m disappointed in the results...or what could have been. Lose Saturday and my expectations are not met. That’d be second losing season in three years.

That's about where I am. I think most of us can accept '15 as a "one off" or outlier. 2 out of 3, most especially this deep into a coaching tenure, is troubling as it is not the norm. Like you, a win Saturday has shifted in meaning. It will define our season. Win Saturday, get to a bowl and we'll talk about "what if" regarding Uva, Miami and UT and "WTH" regarding Duke. But a 6-5 year with a win against Uga will silence all but the most vocal (and biased) critics of coach. A loss will invite questions about our direction. And rightfully so. I much prefer the former over the latter. Diviseness in the fan base just becomes one more obstacle to overcome in a case where we already have more than most. Go Jackets!! THWG.

90-2000 we also played a lot of cupcakes OOC. Navy, UCF, NMSU, Furman and a bad Baylor were consistently on the schedule. Often times, more than one of those per year.

I'm too lazy to look up more than 10 years.
Thank goodness navy and ucf weren't on the schedule this year. Oh, my bad ucf was but it was rained out.

CPJ didn't say anything that wasn't true. Some of our fans have high expectations without a high level of commitment (compared to other schools on our schedule). Need more money so we can hire more headcount & upgrade facilities. And he didn't say Duke has 3X the recruiting staff as us....he said they've got the 3rd biggest recruiting staff in the ACC...basically pointing out that even Duke is taking football more seriously than in the past.
SPOT ON!!! Some of our fans have high expectations without a high level of commitment (compared to other schools on our schedule). You want to win 9 plus games a year the fans need to commit...

GT Football needs to have all of it’s Scholarships Endowed. Only 21% of the Football Scholarships are Endowed. You can help by setting up as little as a $25/month donation to a Football Scholarship. With 2,000 people making that small a donation, you will Endow a Scholarship a year. Or you could make a much larger commitment. http://www.atfund.gatech.edu/node/147

Bobby Ross is certainly no quitter, but he also said that if he knew the academic hurdles he would have to face at GT he NEVER would have come.

He also lamented the fact that even after winning the national championship in 1990 we couldn't even sell all our season tickets in '91.

CBR was the best at evaluating talent of ANY football coach we ever had. Maybe Heisman was better, maybe. But nobody else was / is ever close.
