Perfect example of how nerds don't understand crap about sports. Yes, Oregon, Clemson, Georgia, Alabama, they all got millions from sidewalk fans, and THEN big money donors chipped in. Not how it works. I feel like I'm talking to HAL.
And I am tired of "fans" who don't want to pay anything complaining about "others" who don't pay anything. I buy tickets. I donate. Late last year, early this year GT had a drive for donations specifically for recruiting staff. 320 people donated. More than 320 people read and respond to this forum. I know for a fact that many if not most of the people on this forum who complain about recruiting did not donate to the recruiting staff fund. They complain about not recruiting nationally, but when given the chance to help do that, they did not help.
There are wealthy people who donate money to the GTAA. There are wealthy people who pay attention to athletics that do not donate a lot. Those people should. Your statement that I responded to was not "big money" donors, it was "academic" donors. I take that as people who don't pay attention to sports.
If I were a wealthy person who did not care about sports, I would not donate if I saw that the people who actually do care about sports don't donate. Forget trying to convince them that it would help the school. If they see that the people who do pay attention don't donate, then they will see leeches who want others to pay for their entertainment.
We have people on this forum who care about sports. The people on this forum know others that care about GT sports. If we are not willing to support GT athletics, then we shouldn't expect uninterested parties to do so. Why are you so opposed to the idea that we should support the things that we desire?
