Perfect example of how nerds don't understand crap about sports. Yes, Oregon, Clemson, Georgia, Alabama, they all got millions from sidewalk fans, and THEN big money donors chipped in. Not how it works. I feel like I'm talking to HAL.

And I am tired of "fans" who don't want to pay anything complaining about "others" who don't pay anything. I buy tickets. I donate. Late last year, early this year GT had a drive for donations specifically for recruiting staff. 320 people donated. More than 320 people read and respond to this forum. I know for a fact that many if not most of the people on this forum who complain about recruiting did not donate to the recruiting staff fund. They complain about not recruiting nationally, but when given the chance to help do that, they did not help.

There are wealthy people who donate money to the GTAA. There are wealthy people who pay attention to athletics that do not donate a lot. Those people should. Your statement that I responded to was not "big money" donors, it was "academic" donors. I take that as people who don't pay attention to sports.

If I were a wealthy person who did not care about sports, I would not donate if I saw that the people who actually do care about sports don't donate. Forget trying to convince them that it would help the school. If they see that the people who do pay attention don't donate, then they will see leeches who want others to pay for their entertainment.

We have people on this forum who care about sports. The people on this forum know others that care about GT sports. If we are not willing to support GT athletics, then we shouldn't expect uninterested parties to do so. Why are you so opposed to the idea that we should support the things that we desire?

Good luck getting somewhere with that. Aren't Engineers good with math? How about everybody with 8 figures give three more zeroes than the people with 5.

Don't misunderstand me. I think getting our non-sports engaged alumni engaged is vital as well. I'm a sidewalk fan myself, and I donate to A-T yearly. Unfortunately, I know too many alumni fans who sit near me at the games because they are in a section that doesn't require A-T donations. Both sides have to be fixed for this to work.

He will need the funds to recruit nationally like Stanford and Notre Dame do. I'd love to bring the top SAs in every year, and I think a combination of Southern football and Tech academics can do that. However, that is something that will require recruiting funds in the budget, more staff. If the academic side (donors) wants to maintain this purity, they need to let the GTAA have the monies to accomplish it.
More from the alternate universe. People donate money to what is important toe them be it football, badmitton, theater, or academics...the best way to loose donors is to push them to donate to something they don't support or just move the money without their permission.

I have been a Tech fan since the late 70s when my brother went to school there. There are ups. There are downs. I buy tickets. I go to games. None of that makes a difference. You've got to be kidding me. I have 3 children to support. They all need cars and money for college. So the rich donors want to see their money can make a difference first? How about us? I know this. Regardless of whether we're 3-9 or 11-3, I'm going to be a fan of our teams.

I took the format of the recruiting staff donation push as a way to get smaller donors to donate. One wealthy donor promised matching funds to get others involved. Clemson has some large donors, but they also had 17,181 individual donors in 2017. How many annual donors does GT have? I am not certain, but I have heard that it is in the 6,000-8,000 range. The number of annual donors above $500 can be counted in the football game programs. I counted once and don't remember the number, but I believe it was below 1,000.

"How about us?". I am pretty sure that you could donate $10 a month to the AT Fund without affecting your ability to pay for your families expenses. You could do that just by eating light lunches a couple of times a month.

I am glad that you are a GT fan. I am glad that you buy tickets and attend games. However, if you want to complain that "other people" don't donate money, you should do something yourself first. If 10,000 new people donated $10 per month, that would be an additional $1.2 million. Maybe that doesn't feel like a lot, but based on the recruiting initiative that could pay for 8 additional recruiting staff. That would raise GT to the same number of staff as Duke.

Yet, we tell the SAs "1 in 6 are millionaires at Georgia Tech". 17,181 give at Clemson because they know it will make a difference, that their money toward athletic success won't be hampered by the idea of the SA ideal. I'm FOR the SA ideal, but that don't sell to the sidewalk fan or the millionaire Tech grad either, apparently. Don't tell me where Clemson gets their money from. Where do Stanford, Duke, Northwestern and Vandy get theirs from? Pretty sure they all outspend us.

All of those are private schools. They can spend school money any way they want to. GT is a public university in the state of Georgia. GT is limited to providing 10% of the (revenue or budget don't remember which) of the GTAA. The school provides basically the maximum that they can. The rest is required to come from other sources.

Like I said before if people who are interested in sports, such as yourself, refuse to donate, then the odds of getting someone who doesn't care about sports to donate are very low. "Other people" are not going to pay for your entertainment if you don't want to.

I think it’s actually 3 in 5 now.

I read 35% give to the school, 8% to sports. 8% of alumni would be somewhere around 12,000 people I think.

Here where some of them get their money. Second article’s a bit dated but since we seem to have a lot of Stanford envy on here I found one for that crowd.

Yeah so let's pay for six figures for them to go to school while it's clear they shouldn't be on the team. Btw nobody said to just kick ppl off for no reason. We obviously have a few bad apples on the team

Oh really? Names and numbers please. Put up or shut up.

I’m glad this half of your brain finally won the argument with the other half of your brain.

I had to stop after the second page of this thread. It’s disgusting that people want players to be cut. I knew I should have stayed away after that bowl loss. I’ll cheer for any Tech Man, even if they decide it’s in their best interest to transfer this offseason. I know there were times I considered it, and I didn’t have to put up with the athletic schedule and our fans.

The number on scholarship will likely be 80 or less by spring. Bank on it.
There is always churn regardless of coach or circumstances. Players who graduate, players who don't get playing time, players who don't like the coach or are not liked by the coach. I just hope the players who don't fit in Collins system but want a GT degree will be respected.

I imagine we'll have several transfers and I would guess the majority of them would be on the offensive side. The harsh truth is we have some players that wouldn't be on a P5 roster except for one that ran the TO. I doubt they are straight up told to leave, more because of optics and PR than anything mentioned in this thread, but I expect more than one conversation to take place that basically says if you want to keep proving yourself on the field then it will likely have to be somewhere else.

Defense I would expect less. For starters defense's are less varied than offense by nature, While there are guys who are 4-3 DEs too small to play DL in a 3-4 usually there are ways of using such guys, as an example. The second is that there are far less connection to a defensive staff that was only here 1 year. Where the offense needs a transition of personnel in many ways the defense more needs a transition in coaching.

How many touches did our many ABacks get this year in CPJ’s offense? They were mainly ABlockers anyway, not ball carriers, so moving to a slot or playing on the other side of the ball would seem more meaningful to most.

Sounds like a reasonable guess. We lost two to medical reasons last year, for example. On the other hand, players who were thinking of leaving might stick it out because they’re excited about Collins.

We’re really early in the transition.
