Is there a contract problem with GW's Mike Lonergan? His name was mentioned before the NIT final game as one of two coaches in the game that Tech might be interested in.

He has an excellent resume with good trends.

I'd still rather roll the dice on a young, hungry, crackerjack recruiter (i.e. - Kevin Keatts, Matt McCall, Pat Kelsey) than Craig Neal. It's a high risk/high reward proposition, but it also gives us time to learn if Mark Price will ever be worth giving the job to in the future.

I agree with those that say we shouldn't hire Mark Price today because he has no track record. That said, if he builds a good track record at Charlotte, that becomes a different story.

I've got no interest in Neal at this point, regardless.

Agree The Pit is a great place from what I've seen, but that's arena atmosphere, which is different from the facility itself.

Great post i was trying to get a feeler on how the fans viewed him at this point as a candidate. He doesnt seem to be gaining alot of steam like i thought being alum and having a tourney appearance and potential. although i wish he would so we can move in a different direction

He's young, but I mean, man, he is really, really, really, really young to be taking over an ACC program.

Brad Stevens was a HC at Butler when he was 30. It has been done before (albeit not at the ACC level).

But what's the risk here? If he fizzles out in the next 2-3 years, the program can make a change and not have any money owed to another coach. Now is the time to go after a young up and comer to be honest.

He is interesting. He's got the basketball equivalent of CPJ's resume before we hired him; National Championship at a lower division, probably has accomplished as much as he can at the "mid major" level, slow-riser, age 50.

Like I said earlier, Drew is all Vandy. Formally agreed to 6 year deal. MBob has to press the reset button and start over on the search.

I'm personally over Drew. Not too fond of the guy for doing what he did, especially if he had a verbal agreement with us. Any idea on new names or when MBob wants to have someone hired?

We still need to get it done quick because the dead period for recruiting ends tomorrow. Plus AAU season is heating up and grad transfers are all now looking at options. As for names, who knows, this search has been a disaster so far with how it's been handled and anything that could go wrong, went wrong.

Now we got some chatter going on, and oh by the way, thanks for the backup on McCall. Like I said, he's my diamond in the rough. Of all the other choices, how can you lose? Gregory had experience, so did Capel, and look at their track record. You do the math.

McCall might be good but he took over a team that was already trending upward due to Will Wade's success. I think we need someone with a longer history of success. I would be okay with Lonergan if he can get the right recruiters as assistants. He could be a Mike Brey type for us.

The way I see it at this point is that the pool is pretty devoid of available "experienced" coaches so why try to force one when you have an opportunity to take a chance on the next star?

There's a lot of hear say going on about Bryce Drew, but I see there's still not a confirmation yet. Everything that's been posted so far including tweets are just speculation. Before we start pointing and blaming let's see how everything unfold,IJS

Except it's national writers and media outlets saying Drew to Vandy is a done deal as opposed to GT "insiders" saying it's a done deal. VERY big difference. Lot's of "insiders" were ridiculing the national media writers for saying Vandy and Drew were talking. Not a good look for them right now.

If this BBall coaching search and last year's "news" that CBG was done at GT did anything, it's definitely reassured me that it's better to buy an adult beverage and peruse Twitter than spend the money on "inside" info. GTSwarm and Twitter are free and I get better info from it. (Sorry...just my rant because I gotta be angry at someone for not having a BBall coach).

It's done. 6 year $16.3 Million for Drew to Vandy.
