Tech's schedule if it were cars

Alcorn State - Go Kart
USF - camry
Pitt- Hot rodded pickup truck, something that looks dependable is just as likely to not start as it is to win a drag race
Clemosn - orange lambo - fast, sleek, costs a hell of a lot but you get what you pay for.
Bowling Green - old camaro, requires a lot of work, when it works its fun, but most of the time it doesn't crank
Lousiville - Harley Davidson Fast back, likes to live dangerously and play fast and loose with good taste dangerous when it works, but likely to throw a chain.
Duke - Despite the post duke is a Buick Lacrosse, an updated model that attempts to punch into a market that would not even think about buying it yet can be surprising.
Virginia Tech - New Corvette, updated model that looks cool but still leaves some looking back for the previous classic one from the 80s that you drove throughout your glory years. This one has the potential to be faster and more aggressive but hasn't seem to find a driver who can take advantage.
UNC - Volkswagen jetta, should be a dependable car from a good lineage that gets decent gas milage, but after you buy it you learn it cheated on its emissions test and the company thinks it did nothing wrong.
Miami- a freshly restored 1980s ferarri f40. She's almost back to running just like new, she's gaudy, she's crass, she's loud, and if you look to hard under the seat you might find a used gold chain wrapped around a brick of cocaine.
Virginia - An Old Ford Bronco. Just as likely to outrun the police as it is to flip over and send you careening off a cliff.
Georgia - Ford Mustang, traditional power, had a good run over 30 years ago and has been chasing former glory ever sense, the newest model has a completely different design to try to appeal to a new market but in the end its still the same old disappointing waste of power.

GT - what do you think
Quality offseason post here

So before I go on my rant I will say that in general I do think we will fare better with more donations...and I'm doing my part as best as possible in that regard, so I'm not saying we shouldn't push for that...

...but holy crap, can we just stop using this as a crutch!?!?

Can someone find me some data on what the gap looked like between Tech and Clemson in the years from 1998 - 2009 when we went 9-4 against them? I'd be willing to be it wasn't all that immaterial then either. Or what about the gap between us and Georgia since...oh, I don't know...FOREVER?

Is it a problem...sure. But it has always been a problem, hasn't it? Has there ever been a time where we had the same level of resources as Georgia? What about Alabama? Funny thing...only Tennessee (38), Auburn (36), LSU (25), and Georgia (25) have more victories against the Crimson Tide than Georgia Tech...and only Auburn has a higher winning percentage against them out of that group. We are 21-28-3 against those guys all-time...and I'm pretty sure we we've never been on par with their resources, either.

Yeah, I get it...things have changed since the Dodd days when the scholarship limits were increased, etc. etc. But that's just more excuses...and seriously, we need to stop using all of this as an excuse for poor performance.

The lack of extra recruiting staff and facilities didn't cause the various mishaps against TN, Miami, and Virginia last year that caused us to blow double-digit second-half leads in those games...that was on the team and the coaches. Will more money and better facilities help the program overall? Sure it will, and we should head in that direction...and they should try to raise more money...but for God's sake, let's stop with the "we can't compete" narrative.

It's sad that I can only click "LIKE" once for this.

What you describe though is just the product of years of "It Is What It Is" mediocrity coming from the head coach. That is the hallmark of the CPJ Era - getting the fanbase to accept this crap.

EXACTLY. I've never understood GT fans and especially ones on this board that always say " we can't compete." As a fan, coach, or player you should never say that. The best word to express our fans is EXCUSES. It perfectly sums up a lot of our fans. Even to this post you will have people telling me I'm wrong because they just want the same old excuses.

Why is it that Andy McCollum seems to do pretty well in recruiting, but the other coaches suffer from GT's excuses, I mean, impediments to recruiting?

This is the kind of oral diarrhea that probably makes you feel better by posting it, but it has literally no bearing in reality. Have you met anybody on this board who is willing to accept 2017 as what we should expect? Nonsense.

So what can we do about the money gap? Harass your fellow grads to give money. IIRC about 8% give to the AT Fund while 35% give to the Institute as a whole. We need to close that gap. Tech proper has money. What would $10M more to Tech do? Not much materially. But it would if given to athletics.

Aside from that, be relentlessly positive, wear Gold, and support our student-athletes unconditionally. These guys put up with pompous obnoxious professors all week while holding down a full time job (football) and getting up at 5am. If you want to vent after a loss, fine. If you want to make fun of CPJs belly, fine. But for Pete’s sake, don’t be that turncoat who posts filth all over social media about Fire Paul Johnson or criticizing our players. Nothing makes me shake my head in disbelief more than seeing the main (non-athletic) Georgia Tech Facebook page post something cool our students are doing, and then random people vomit all over it about how bad our football team is. NO, your fandom is bad.

So 75% of Clemson's revenue while less than 50% of Clemson's total number of wins?

It is about 73%. If you want to pick a year, why not pick 2014? That was 110% of Clemson's wins with about 73% of their budget. Funny how cherry picking stats can look any way you want it to.

Why not look at the entire tenure of CPJ? That is about 71% of Clemson's wins with about 70-75% of Clemson's budget.

Of all the teams on 2018 schedule that we have played at least once since 2008, we have lost to them 52% of the time.

Also wonder how many of the S/As we signed in the last class - how many were offered a ship by the"factories"? However so defined.

And I wonder how many we offered that signed with "factories"?

Have often read / heard that players we had in "name the year" could not get into school now. (Wonder where scores are listed to confirm this?)

And seem to hear this about every progressing year.

So what is the point if we can only get lesser players every year?

Make a choice folks.

Georgia Tech - 1965 Lincoln Continental (gold with white interior leather & suicide doors). Attractive, powerful, and a little on the stodgy side, yet somehow sleek and elegant and possessing timeless style. Kept nice by a jealous enthusiast owner/driver who rides around Atlanta with the top down, wearing sunglasses and a golf shirt one day, a tweed fedora and a scarf on another. Has a good burst of power, but finding parts is often difficult. Often breaks down due to lack of hard-to-find parts. But if high-quality aftermarket parts can be found, it can hold its own with most anything on the road.

I think model A with pennants and cheerleaders does nicely!

The problem at Georgia Tech is not the GAP with UGA.... It is the GAP with Clemson and Duke.... It would appear that both Dabo Sweeney and David Cutcliffe have out coached CPJ.

Since the 2008 seasons Georgia Tech fans have seen the gap with Clemson get larger (like UGA larger) and Duke close the gap with Georgia Tech. While CPJ has had some success on the Flats he has been out recruited and coached by both Dabo and David and it is not good for Georgia Tech Football as Clemson beats u like UGA does and Duke beats us on the regular. It is sad when you consider we use to beat both schools pretty easy
