We all knew GT would win
No illusions thus far about what we have. But last year this was one in the right hand column.Gentlemen, it was TN, by 2. And they were missing shots at the end.
We got the win, but my optimism is still in check.
This is my gripe. For about 34-36, we did play our best and our best was pretty good, but those few minutes that lapsed almost let a shaky team beat us. Glad we won, but they need to step it up even more or we'll get picked off in a way we shouldn't.When teams are losing to Western Illinois (Wisconsin), William & Mary (NC State), Northern Florida (Illinois), Chattanooga (Georgia), and George Washington (UVA), I'm ok with beating a Tennessee team that still doesn't know whether they're good or bad yet.
We're known for defense and rebounding, two things we didn't do particularly well tonight. Rather than looking at this as barely winning, I'm taking liberties to say tonight was about finding a way to win when we didn't play our best. I know there's a track record that suggests otherwise but it's been for different reasons.
I'll put us in the middle of the ACC pack now, which is higher than my expectations heading into the year.
I disagree with the idea that we played our best for 34-36 min. We were outrebounded and had defensive lapses far more than 4-6 minutes of game time. Tennessee's run to start the 2nd half lasted almost 6 minutes by itself. This is my gripe. For about 34-36, we did play our best and our best was pretty good, but those few minutes that lapsed almost let a shaky team beat us. Glad we won, but they need to step it up even more or we'll get picked off in a way we shouldn't.
