Any oneremember the 2003 vandy game at Vandy. I had to listen on the radio not sure if it was on TV. Good old Wes was calling the game seems like it happen late in the game And Wes started shouting balls loose and I got pissed and throw my beer at the wall. Then a few moments later I realized he was talking about Reggie Ball was run free.
( Note here I had to paint that room the next day)

I recall the 2003 game was on pay per view? I remember frantically running around campus and found some bootleg stream in Homepark.

That season had some high highs and low lows. Tearing down the goal posts after offing Auburn, then our choke at the doak. Besting doormat Vandy in OT, the 7-3 snoozer over the turds on a freezing cold Thursday night then getting blasted at Puke. Peak Chan.

This is a mixed bag:

For attracting local fans, this isn't too bad. It will not be a big production for local fans and local students to make a quick car ride to Birmingham.

For out of state fans this is not great. If they are going to have to make travel plans and fly, Birmingham is not an alluring Holiday destination.

I feel for the players. If you have earned a Bowl berth, then you either want a sexy destination or a high profile opponent. A bus ride to Alabama to play a perennial SEC doormat does not ring either bell.

But I bet the Bowl people will put on the Southern Hospitality for the players and they will have a good time.

The match-up is far from ideal. the Vandy program has a losing reputation but is fielding a good team this season. That is not what you want to face. As has been pointed out, it has that "no-win" quality.

But it is an opportunity to see this good GT team one last time. That's worth something for sure.

Your points are valid. But part of me can't help but wonder if the Vandy fans don't feel the same way. We are intimately aware that we are clawing our way up out of the quagmire of the last 10 - 12 years but are the fans outside of the GT family so informed?

It's a close game for me to get to. I am equally distant from Memphis, Shreveport, Birmingham, New Orleans so any bowl in these towns are a demand to see in person.

And next year I hope it's in New Orleans.;)

I don't think it is a bad get, both teams have the potential to case a sellout being convenient to both bases for travel and there is history. My only concern is that this is a good Vandy team. We need a big nationally broadcast win here to build upon.

I was just thinking that people outside of GT may not be looking at GT as the team more likely to win. We are in the lowly ACC and stank up until last year for 4ish years in a row. People were degrading Miami because we beat them. Our win against FSU is as close to meaningless in many people’s eyes by now because of how putrid they were. And we did lose to VT, Cuse, ND, and Louisville so lots of folks who didn’t actually watch the UGA game could believe that to be the fluke.

I don’t believe any of that stuff but it’s easy to see how that narrative could be pretty pervasive for people who haven’t seen us play. So maybe in many people’s eyes it is not a no-win situation for us.

Vandy lost 6 games:
GA State 36-32
Missouri 30-27
Texas 27-24
USCe 28-7
Tennessee 36-23
LSU 24-17

They beat:
VPI 37-24
Alcorn St 55-0
Alabama 40-35
Kentucky 20-13
Ball St 24-14
Auburn 17-7

That doesn’t look like a scoring juggernaut to me.
That is a very difficult Conference schedule. Probably the hardest of any SEC team. Six of the eight had a combined record of 56-17. Only Kentucky and Auburn were not good teams.

Their offense is more a ball control with 5-10 minute drives as was CPJ's offense. If you are not careful they will burn you with a deep pass.

Should be a good game!

The line opened GT -3.25. I thought it’d be closer to -4.5. It’ll be interesting to see how it moves.

They might - like a “best season in years and we can’t get a bigger matchup?” feel - but at least on the west coast people are familiar enough with GT historically that except for the under-30 crowd that only really knows the Collins era I usually get more of a “oh cool y’all must be getting good again”

Well I just bought 4 tickets through GT.

Anybody know about parking availability and will I need a parking pass?
