dook and it’s not even close.Who has more fb fans, duke or vandy?
Good conclusions about who is going where and how to improve attendance and reduce costs to the schools.Since ESPN owns 17 bowl games (including the Birmingham Bowl), they work with their conference partners to try to arrange the bowls to maximize viewing potential.
It has been years since bowls were about 'rewarding the student athletes' or filling the local coffers. They are now primarily about creating live content for ESPN. If they were about 'rewarding the SA's' there wouldn't be 40+ bowl games - where every 6-6 team gets to go to a bowl.
You will also notice that alot of the games either involved teams that didn't have to travel too far or matchups that ESPN feels they can create a story around.
BC is playing in NYC. VT in Charlotte. GT in Birmingham (against another really high education school), NC ST is playing in Annapolis against another NC school. ACC reportedly gave up Gasparilla this year so that Pitt could play in Detroit. Cal is in Los Angeles. Miami plays in Orlando (against another 10-2 school just on the outside of the CFP).
Outside of the big name bowls I think this is something you are going to see more of going forward. With all the additional expenses programs are going to have to account for, setting up bowl games where schools don't have to travel too far so that they or their conference don't have to pay alot of additional travel expenses is likely to become the norm. Every one of the games I mentioned above is less than a 5 hr drive from the school, other than Cal which is less than 6.
I also fully expect this to be a noon ET start. The other option for ESPN is the Armed Forces Bowl with OK and Navy in Ft. Worth TX. I think ESPN will see that as having more potential eyeballs with a service academy playing a 'big brand' school so that will get the 3:30 slot.
One correction - there was a 10-10 tie in 1965, so the W streak stands at 6 in a row. But 12-0-1 over the last 13. Last loss was '41.Let’s make it 13 baby! Love the matchup and I’m smelling 8
Good insight. I was trying to make a similar point earlier in this thread regarding the myth that bowls pick teams based on expected attendance. Ease of travel seems to be a factor now and that's good for both the teams and the fans.Since ESPN owns 17 bowl games (including the Birmingham Bowl), they work with their conference partners to try to arrange the bowls to maximize viewing potential.

it's stashed under the west standsthis bell at GT now? I had no idea we played for a cow bell.
Agree with everything except the noon part. But only because everything is saying 2:30p central or 3:30p eastern already. I was very surprised because I also noon for the same reason you did. Similarly, the official social media for the bowl, Navy, and Oklahoma all say noon eastern/11 central.Since ESPN owns 17 bowl games (including the Birmingham Bowl), they work with their conference partners to try to arrange the bowls to maximize viewing potential.

Thanx for posting this. It's really interesting to read this account of a game 132 years ago. The language is so quaint. "Tekity Teck! Who recks? Who recks? Boom Rah! Boom Rah!"In November 152 years ago, the first football game between Tech and Vanderbilt was played in 1892, a 20–10 Vanderbilt win. It was Georgia Tech's inaugural season (their second-ever game, the first was with Georgia) and Vanderbilt's third season.

Based on how King played at uga I assume he can play in the bowl game.I’ve seen their games against VPISU and Bama where they looked sharp. But they seem to be very up and down. Hopefully the GaSt version of Vandy shows up.
Any ideas on who’s starting QB for GT? Does King’s condition requires surgery? If so, I’d imagine it’s already occurred or will soon and he’s out? I’m assuming Philo is starting since I don’t think bowl games count against red shirt?

He's in the portal, so probably not.Wonder if Pyron’s available? Would be nice to see him go out with a TD or two
Let King heal, play Philo the whole game
