Stansbury and Collins Dismissed

I thought it would take him losing the locker room. I don't know if he did, but it was obvious after UCF that the strides necessary to be successful here weren't accomplished in the off-season. I wonder if the reason it happened mid-season is that Stanbury was terminated, as well. Stanbury didn't fire Collins. I think I was wrong because I don't think he lost the locker room.
I'm not so sure about that. @TooTall posted this earlier:
Not sure where to post this.
But as many know im not a fire the coach during season type of guy. But, our season tix are next to a family of a current player. According to his mom, his views are "practices are a joke. Guys don't want to practice. Most have given up on CGC, but not GT."
I didnt see it until later in the game. When we did our usual 3 and out, the offense would huddle near the ball at LOS, but Sims would already be next to the sideline. Complete lack of leadership from a starting qb. But then maybe he reflective of the team at large.
Tonight was unacceptable. Offense is a joke. Defense would be a lot better if they could catch their breath. Special Teams are special and not in a good way. I had zero fun at a game I have been looking forward to for about year. This was our measuring stick. CGC has to go. My small $150 check to the GTAA im mailing Monday will have "For the Geoff Collins Buy-out" written in the memo line.
If Nebraska can do it when they are literally 1 possession away from winning 7 of their last 9 games, we can do it because 183-10.
I heard something similar, but a little different, from a player's parent in Orlando. It seemed to me that the parent I talked to didn't trust the HC at all. Said that the HC told the players they had to provide maximum effort in practice or they wouldn't see the field, that the players knew who was and who was not giving effort in practice, and that it didn't match with who got on the field. This player was on the field, so it wasn't sour grapes. Maybe not losing the locker room, but it seemed like losing the trust of the team as a leader.

"We are evaluating the football program and we will do whatever we can to assist Coach Collins in areas that can lead to significant improvement to the program and to more wins in 2023. 3 wins per season is not acceptable at Georgia Teach and while, I think we are headed in the right direction, we do need to emphasize improvement and we cannot be in a position at this time next year where no improvement has been in exhibited in with win loss column. It is clear that we had issues on defense this year and need to get the offense moving in a better direction and that is what Coach Collins will need to figure out this off season, how do we get better and ultimately win more games. Georgia Tech expects excellence in all things that we do and we won't accept 3 win seasons moving forward, so we will do what is necessary to make sure Coach Collins is in a good position to win next year."

or in actuality....

"We.....uhhhhhh..... are evaluating the football program and.......ummmmmmmm........we will do whatever we can to assist......ahhhhhhhhhhh........ Coach Collins in areas that can lead to significant improvement to the program and.......uhhhhhhhhhhhh....... to more wins in 2023. I think we are headed in the........ummmmmmmmm...... right direction, but we need to emphasize improvement and we.......uhhhhhhhhhh........ cannot be in a position at this time next year where no improvement has been in exhibited in with win loss column........... ok, you get it. 🙁

When you say "you've got your man" and 90% of the fan base is ready for him to leave, they can't watch his press conferences, are literally making fun of the clothes he wears every week and the team shows no effort at home against Ole Miss and LANE KIFFIN says he took mercy on the other side because of what's going on, you've wrapped an anchor around your neck. If he didn't know that, he shouldn't have been AD in the first place. He had to go.
So if he had said what you said above and then fired GC last week, you would be ok with Stansbury keeping his job?

When you're losing just about any real game on your schedule by three score or more margins, does it really matter if you've lost the locker room? I mean, you've lost the fan base, the AD hooked himself up to the Titantic right after it hit the iceberg, you play Clemson close for 2.5 quarters, play ok versus WCU, get your doors blown off and Lane Kiffin taking mercy on you and can't put up any points in the red zone versus UCF. What else do you really need to see? A beatdown to Pitt? Losing to Duke? I think the story had been told in all honesty.

The story stops being if you are going to fire him, but is it worth it to pay an extra 3 mil to do so 2 months early. To me, that sends the message that money won't be a factor in our next coaching search. I'll wait to see how it plays out, but my guess is we'll do something like pay 4 million for Sander, McGee, or someone, and then not realize that likely it's 5 million to be in the top 50 in the country next year.

Now could they still have success here anyways? Sure. Price tag isn't the only thing. Maybe we really like Sanders because of his Atlanta ties or maybe we decide we need to lean into the state ties and so McGee is who we really want and they happen to be cheaper. But if Chadwell, for example, is tagged as the guy who we want and he will take 6 million a year to get here, do we pay? And if McGee comes here, does well, say wins 10 games back to back, are we going to pay him 7 million to keep him from jumping to whatever SEC school is open in a couple years? Maybe but my guess is not, and if not then 3 million for 2 months isn't worth it.

Not 100% okay. But after 100-0, players quitting in the ND and GA games, the continuous unintended comedy of our former coach, I think you had to make more of a statement than "I have my man." He signed him to a 7 year deal with a bad buyout. He did the search. Saying he had his man was wrapping his arms and legs around Collins and putting his career on Collins' coaching job in 2023. That is not a place where I would want to be.

Effectively, after the contract, the performance and the statement, he couldn't make the next football coaching hire, so effectively, he had to go. Hate it. Good guy. Not a great communicator. But would you have hung your career around the possibility of Collins turning it around this year? I wouldn't have.

Maybe saying the above gets him moved to another position at GT, maybe it doesn't. But just a really bad call (hiring Collins with no real search committee) and then another bad call (saying he had his man) effectively ended his career here. The other stuff, not paying his OSU buyout, having to get a loan from GT to pay it off, poor communication skills were perhaps red flags that maybe he was in a bit over his head as well. 🤷‍♂️

We will see shortly what our commitment is and if the talk on Tuesday was real or just BS.

To me, that's losing the locker room. Nuff said. Good bye.

Hiring Collins was a mistake. I was never on board. But sounds like he got pressured into it by boosters+GOL.

Everything after that—just hard for me as an observer to know what was going on. There is a debate as to whether he had the money to make a change or not. If the money wasn’t there, I don’t see what difference it would make for Stansbury to have come out one way or the other.

Pretty sure every major corporation escorts fired employees to their cars. Any one that doesn't, should.
Yep. I'm a senior exec where I work. If they fired me, even for no cause, they would most certainly at least escort me to the door if not my car. They deinitely wouldn't say 'go clean your stuff out and go home' and then just let me wander around.

It's just what big entities do in these days of workplace violence and such.

Nothing to see here...move along.

I love how everyone is comparing being fired as a head coach in college football to being fired from a corporate job as if they are even remotely similar. Yes, I have been fired and escorted out of the office without getting to chance to tell my employees and coworkers, "Goodbye." I am also not so delusional to believe that my job is the same as being a HC in college football

This actually happened to me for the first time in my career because of the pandemic. The company I worked for had about 85% of their income based on commercial aviation, so you can imagine what this meant when the pandemic started. We went from "can't produce enough and running 24/7/365" to not needing any material and shutting down lines that for 9 years were never shut down. 40% of the workforce was let go in April/May of 2020, and then when the 3rd quarter results came in way below the expectations, another cut was made in early November. That is the one that got me.

Realize, that I had won 3 management awards for projects I led while at this company, was personally responsible for improvement after improvement, was the main customer contact onsite, was the SME for our MRP system, etc, etc. I think my age (59) and the fact that I took Covid seriously did me in, but who knows? Most of the management team at my plant had acted as if covid was a hoax, and they did not even follow the corporate guidelines related to C-19 (still doing meetings face to face in rooms for extended periods of time with no masking, for example), but I was cautious, due to my age, and I think ultimately, that played a part in the surprise decision.

With that said, when I was told I was being laid off without cause, I was also escorted to my car. It is pretty standard policy for a lot of companies.

the amount of business major arrogance on here is so funny to me. if we had a dollar for every time someone made some ridiculous comparison like “well in my day working for major corporations our hiring/firing/whatever process was like _____. tech HAS to do the same” we could hire deion as HC and chadwell as OC.

guys just want to brag on the internet that they had a nice job and they’re important. a tale as old as time

Ok. Would you prefer narcissistic? What do you call someone who thinks that things that happen to others should happen exactly like it would happen to themselves regardless if the situations are remotely similar or not.,
Lol. What a guy. How about this?

What do you call someone who drops onto a site and starts saying that anyone who disagrees with them is delusion or a narcissist? I've got a name for someone like that. You might be able to figure it out. But it ends with "/ignored"

Ga Institue of Technology isn't a corporation. They treated him like he shot someone. He wasn't able to talk to the players. Sounds very immature unless he reacted unprofessional or caused a scene. Bad optics again by the heads of matech. What's new?

I love it. Please ignore. Bye, Felicia!

By the way, I never directly called you or anyone else delusional or narcissistic (nor did I say anything as silly as everyone who disagrees with me is so and so), but rather suggested I am not because I do not think the world should act for everyone else the way it does around me. It is telling that you took that personally as directed towards you. A more self aware man might reflect on that.
