Stansbury and Collins Dismissed

I feel horrible for saying this, but I have absolutely zero sympathy for Geoff Collins, and I hope he sees no benefit from the generational wealth we have gifted him with absolutely zero return.
Why feel horrible? This is a perfectly reasonable view. He's set up with enough money for multiple lifetimes for doing nothing other than crashing GT football into the dirt. Not having sympathy for him isn't the same as wishing him ill.

What's sad is that many saw this exact outcome for both at the end of last season,
I wanted to give the new assistants a chance but I guess most were right . We should have let Collins go last year , and had a fresh start this year

The test will be individual. Can they do their best even when faced with disappointment and loss? It's a hard thing even for more experienced adults, so for these younger adults it will be a real challenge.

He is wrong because of his us against them view of “outsiders”. The Institute, the student body, the alumni, and the fans should not be viewed as “outsiders”. Despite his endless, empty proclamations that he loved Georgia Tech, Collins openly fostered that piss poor attitude by publicly dismissing the views and opinions of the fan base in the media. Who knows how much worse it was in the locker room. The team should realize and take pride in the fact that they are a representation of Georgia Tech. A good coach teaches his or her players that it’s about more than just them. Yet another of Collins’ coaching failures.

Pretty much. It's amazing how many people aren't familiar with the Peter Principle. Just because someone isn't successful at their current position doesn't mean they weren't ever successful at their former positions..
There was an updated study on the Peter principle looking at the best ways to manage it. https://arxiv.org/pdf/0907.0455.pdf

On the other hand we obtained the counterintuitive result that the best strategies for improving, or at least for not diminishing, the efficiency of an organization, when one ignores the actual mechanism of competence transmission, are those of promoting an agent at random or of randomly alternating the promotion of the best and the worst members. We think that these results could be useful to guide the management of large real hierarchical systems of different natures and in different fields

I think moral of the story is "if the coach isn't a good OC, how could we expect him to be a good HC" is not sufficient cause to not consider a head coach. Paul Johnson began his career as a defensive coach and turned out to be one of the great offensive minds of his age.

How people feel on the outside is important. Without taking this step now, people -- potential recruits, potential coaches, potential donors -- could easily have figured this is just GT football from now on. It's hard to replace that sort of idea later if you let it set.

That's a great point. One of the red flags for a poor leader is one who uses "Us Against The World" as their rallying cry. It's a reliable test to watch out for poor managers...just see which managers circle the wagons to create 'culture.'

LOL!

GT Fan #1: Let's look for Coordinators who have won the Broyles awards
GT Fan #2: Collins won three at three different schools.
GT Fan #1: BS! He could not have won those since he sucked as a HC.
When did he win the Broyles Award? I’d bet money he didn’t win it 3 times. Frankly, I’m not sure he even won it once, but I could be mistaken.

He’s gone now. That’s really all that matters but the above seems unlikely to me.

IMO, this is the most interesting part of the AJC writeup, and something no one has brought up:

Cabrera has installed senior Frank Neville, the institute’s senior vice president for strategic initiatives and chief of staff, as the interim athletic director. The interim football coach’s identity was not immediately known.

Cabrera isn't even staying inside the Athletic Department. He's going to the Institute level to temporarily replace Stansbury. Looks like Cabrera wants an "outside" perspective on what's really going on with the Athletic department, and wants an honest opinion...and someone not beholden to donors and the old "GT way". IMO, this is a VERY good development for GT athletics. There's about to be a sea change in our athletic department.

Here's more about Neville:

EDIT: Funny enough (or ironically), Neville spoke about "Leading during a crisis" once...welp...

I think this is very encouraging. Like an idiot, I had assumed that something like a outside strategic review was going on as a regular procedure. On reflection, it is obvious that I'm giving the athletic department and the Hill far too much credit. Well, now we'll see. I have no doubt that Professor Neville can make things clear to the BoT and the administration in short order. Whether that will lead to solutions is another question.

I don't see it. Even Auburn is going Ho Hum at Deion. Great curiosity factor but might be more trouble than he is worth. He did visit here after the Penn State game though.

IMO, Deion's candidacy is more of social media running wild than actual reality. Also, what part is Deion's management playing in all of this hype. Deion is VERY astute at PR and marketing...and he's the ultimate product.

That's not taking away from what he's doing at Jackson State. He's legit turning around that program and making the college football world pay attention. That means a LOT. However, it's a BIG leap from Jackson State and a P5 program.

I have compassion for people in dire straits. People struggling to make it.
Millionaire dude remains a millionaire, plus doesn't even have to work anymore?
Not worried about him.
Sorry if he's feeling bummed out. He'll be fine.

Which is saying you really don't have compassion unless you feel they deserve it, which isn't truly compassion to begin with. Gotcha.

Will Collins show up at a presser or will Ken get him to go on the record? Would be interesting to hear him today as compared to Saturday and last week. Any contrition? Any "I did this wrong and wish I would've done this?" Any apologies? Or is he already at the Waffle House celebrating and no time for the media?

I doubt the Public will hear from him, he likely talked with the team and then that was it
.
