Coverage of Spring football this year has been subpar at best and now I just read our spring game will not be aired on ESPN3 because GT decided to broadcast a women’s softball game instead. WTF????
Our AD just doesn’t get “it”, super lame and almost disappointing as wearing Russell uni’s and our previous AD trying to send our football team over to Ireland on a cargo plane to save a few bucks....

GT makes its really hard to create diehard fans these days.....If you can’t muster enough sense to broadcast the spring game over an f’ing softball game then that perfectly sums up the state of our athletics right now, a dumpster fire

I don't think it's gotta do with the AD. Tstan does get "it" but I'm not sure how many around him do.

Why Georgia Tech’s spring game won’t be broadcast

Posted: 7:03 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018

Georgia Tech has broadcast its past four spring games online, but will not do so this year. The reason is that the athletic department has committed to using its in-house production capabilities to an online broadcast of the softball team’s home game against North Carolina, which also is being played Friday evening.

At the least, coach Paul Johnson wasn’t protesting the decision.

“There’s no advantage into giving your opponents the spring game,” he said Wednesday after the team’s 14th practice of the spring. “I just don’t know what you’d gain from that.”

While Tech’s offense does not vary season to season, the defense will be considerably different with new defensive coordinator Nate Woody.

Tech has company in not broadcasting its spring game. In the ACC, six other schools – Louisville, Miami, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest – did not broadcast their spring games. Representatives of two schools, speaking on condition their schools not be recognized, acknowledged that competitive advantage was at least part of the reason their schools’ games weren’t being streamed.

Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida State and N.C. State broadcast their spring games, all online on either ACC Network Extra or ESPN3. North Carolina did not have a spring game, nor will Virginia. Boston College, Duke, Florida State and N.C. State all chose to self-produce their games. An email to Clemson on the topic was not answered Wednesday.

Tech has the capacity to do one high-quality broadcast at a given time, athletic department spokesman Mike Flynn said, and chose not to produce two broadcasts of lesser quality. Flynn said that it wasn’t necessarily a decision of softball over the spring game, but noted that softball is in-season and that the series had been scheduled in advance of the spring game. The softball games will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.

“We’d love for our fans to come watch it,” Johnson said. “Come to the stadium. It’s going to be a nice night and beautiful weather. Come watch it live. When you can watch it sitting at home, sometimes it’s easier to do that.”

Johnson said that it would be different if ESPN wanted to broadcast the spring game on one of its channels, as it is doing with Georgia on Saturday, because of the potential to help recruiting.

“But to stream it?” he asked. “That doesn’t do anything for you.”
LMAO

Since Tech football sells out Bobby Dodd Stadium every game, every year to rabid Tech fans, there is no need to make it easier for fans to attend the spring game, or to watch it on TV. After all, more fan involvement would only create an unnecessary “buzz” of optimism and, therefore, increased ticket demand, which, sadly, Tech could not satisfy.

Too bad the game isn’t on a Saturday afternoon, so fans from out of town could make a day trip of it.
Saturdays make it hard for families with kids playing sports. Fan survey after every game asks where you are traveling from, age, and number of kids so they could be using this data to make the decision to hold the game Friday night. If they aren't using the data for this purpose then they should be.

I give tstan a pass.
Got recruiting going, new locker room, stabilized coach contract, etc

2. Coach is what he is - a coach and not a energetic outside sales man type. Up close and set up properly he is great.

Hopefully post spring game gtaa marketing guys
1. will post long videos of a lot of key players. Where is Will Bryan ( rg, rt, utility, is Brad soild at left guard? Does TQM Stop, pop, and hit his passes as receiver getting open? Ditto Lucas? How does Swilling look? Do we have a real back up to the BB

2. Have coach and ast coach or 2 miked and filmed up during scrimmage . Then edit to show his passion.

3. Turn a negative into a positive.

Or just be engineers and expect to get what they deserve in the end.

It’s all a big conspiracy. They intentionally chose Friday night because they knew there was a softball game being played at the same time. They claim they can only do one high quality broadcast at a time and they chose to broadcast softball because it is “in season”. All of this is because CPJ didn’t want the world to see CNW’s new defense, a defense that anyone with YouTube can see anytime they want. The truth is that CPJ would probably like to skip the Spring game altogether and have his big defense “reveal” against Alcorn State. There may be technical difficulties with the lights tomorrow night... [emoji23]

Nobody has forced Johnson to have a spring game. If he didn't want one, he wouldn't have one. It's not like he would be alone if he did that. Neither UNCheat nor UVA is having one, and there are several other schools nationwide who are not. That being said, however, broadcast or not, it was stupid to schedule any other campus sporting event at the same time as the spring game.

In fairness, I believe the softball game was scheduled before the spring game. Perhaps someone should have checked for conflicts before scheduling the spring game.
