Spring Competition

Lots of talk about running backs and offense in this thread. I'm too lazy to read through it all and see if it was covered much, but is anyone else interested in how things shake out in the defensive backfield? I think there's a lot of athleticism on the roster, but not sure where it will all fit.

I like this year because it's a legitimate "spring competition" with so many injured players returning on O and so many players having graduated on D.

Not sure that's true, but if so, it means absolutely nothing when you suit up. But for the record, I LOVED CJL as a recruit. You can go back and see my post raving about him after the state playoffs his senior year. I hope they both blow up!

It is absolutely true. Check each ones 247 & rivals page for high school. CJ (.8570, 5.7) was rated higher than MM (.8442, 5.5). The only difference with Leggett is he didn't have a superstar older brother. Leggett WAS the higher rated recruit. He might shock a lot of people this year.

And jh days and F Kalon were our only 4 star players in their classes. I put my money on the only back that has proven himself (MM) or the most highly rated /offered player(Mills). Then my speculation pick (Benton). By the way, he has the same # of carries as the other two that everyone loves.

CJ Leggett hasn't had a chance to prove himself. He was injured after redshirting. Don't sleep on CJ Leggett. Our depth at BB is about to be silly...

I'm with you on it being interesting. Here's my take, fwiw.
Safety: AJ Gray, Corey Griffin, John Marvin, Shaun Kagawa
CB: Step Durham, Lance Austin, Lamont Simmons (USC transfer), Meiko Dotson
NB: Law Austin

The five guys I have here as starters have all played a good bit. I wouldn't be surprised if some A-Backs get some time over there, but I wouldn't know who. It didn't sound like CPJ was inclined to move Lynn back.

Meiko Dotson left Tech.

No need to make this a CJ vs. MM debate. I love both these guys, and like I said, I was a huge fan of CJ's commitment.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm very optimistic about Legget. When I watched north Gwinnett in the state title game, I remember thinking, "wow that kid is a stud and I wish we could get a nasty RB like that at GT." He just passed the eye test for me, and I'm excited to see what he does here.

I got a couple other posts like that if you want to look them up. I definitely won't be shocked if he blows up. I just happen to think it is MM's job to lose. And if he does, then we are in even better shape!

Pure speculation: does Quaid get some time at A Back because of blocking like Lucas Cox did?

In 2014, CPJ wore down lots of teams in the second half with waves of fresh A Backs. It does look like we have the numbers there to be relatively fresh late in the season.

OK, add to this list Dorian Walker a RS Fr (listed as a WR/DB) and Jalen Johnson may switch back to DB from WR. Also David Curry, an LB, might play some Nickel. Still, we seem thin at DB. I wonder if we're looking at a Grad Transfer here.

Jair Anderson and Jalen Camp are intriguing possibilities to me at DB. Both may end up at WR, but we seem to have a lot of young talent there, and these two seem like superior athletes.

David Curry is one I'm interested to see at Nickel. With his HS film and size, not to mention his bloodline, he may have a high ceiling.

Just watched that clip of Quaid. Not only is that a lot of weight (about 320, I think), but someone taught him how to lift it. Good thing; a body can get hurt fooling around with that much weight using bad form.

That's 350 actually. I taught him how to power clean and now I'm waiting for him to beat my record of 360.

You could absolutely be right. I have said before that I was the one that had Whitehead as all ACC!! I just like the other guys on tape better. Obviously I bat much less than 100.
