This is the real world. Produce or move on. These kids want to be paid for their efforts and that is coming. The other side is that if you don't perform you don't get paid, including no scholarship. College football moving from socialist model to full blown capitalist model. Lot's of changes coming.

Go Jackets!

Well said. They will soon become professionals.

Probably a dumb question, but could a guy give up his scholly and become a Preferred walk on instead? Also, could a benefactor pay a guys schooling if he would give up his scholly?
yes to the 1st, no to the 2nd. Would just be come a non-scholarship player like a certain LB turned DT that got in trouble academically and lost his scholarship but stayed on the team. If you come into school with a grant-in-aid, you can't go off athletic scholarship, have school paid for and not count against the 85.

Could a benefactor employ a SA who gives up his scholarship so that he has the means to earn income to pay for his education so he can finish his degree?

If that loophole was open, Alabama, Texas, et al would have hundreds of “unofficial” scholarships that way

So, no, they can’t unless the SA becomes ineligible

What if the employer is not a "benefactor"? What is definition of "benefactor". Even the NCAA can't keep a former SA from working. The "non benefactor " employer could be a friend of a "benefactor " and the "benefactor" could reciprocate the favor in some way. I would bet my a** that this kind of stuff goes own.

OK, this is completely baseless speculation, but if they find O Linemen they like, I wouldn’t be shocked to see someone moved from offensive line to DT, like they were doing with Lee.

I’m still hoping for a couple of impressive defensive tackles.

Hansen seems like he is built for dt?

Yeah, they can’t keep a FORMER SA from working. I was interpreting the question as “why can’t a booster give a currently active player a paycheck instead of the player using a scholarship?”

If they SA isn’t actively playing, the question is meaningless.

Some of you will hate to see this post and if it violates policy, please take it down. There will definitely be some attrition next off-season. 11 seniors on the roster, but 3 will come back. 5 open spots now, and with 8 seniors leaving that mean only 13 available.

21 commitments for the class of 2020 and at least 2/3 more expected. This does not include incoming transfers. It's almost a guarantees at least 10 guys will move on from the program.

Here's my attempt at top 10 guys most likely to transfer:

10: Christian Malloy - Surpassed by J. Griffin and D. Smith. 5th RB on the roster now at a position with no seniors and will battle Gibbs, Ellison, Amerson, next year.

9: King/Wells- No place for two kickers.

8: Charlie Clark- 6 incoming OL next year. In 3 years, has no PT.

7: Jerry Howard Jr.- Oldest RB on roster. Can take redshirt year. PT decreased from FR year.

6: Peje' Harris- Buried in the depth chart. All WRs coming back next year, including Ezzard. 2 of his closest friends Mcheehan and Jackson transferred.

5: Jair Hawkins-Anderson - Can be a grad transfer somewhere. No true position and little PT so far.

4: Luke Johns- Will have to battle too many long hybrid DE/LB.

3: Jaytlin Askew- Crowded DB position is set to even be more saturated with talent next year.

2: Stephen Dolphus- Not ATL and nowhere to be seen.

1: Lucas Johnson- If he can't win starting job, has no reason to stay. Could get immediate waiver if he transfers close to home in California.
Unless he gets medicaled, I don't see Clark leaving. I understand if he weren't injured, he'd have gotten PT at tackle. We still have no depth there.

So, the point I am trying to make is that if a player will never see meaningful time, it would be advantageous to him to consider dropping his football scholarship and spending his time more fruitfully gaining experience in the life he will be living by working. Tech, being located in Atlanta with all of its job opportunities, and the contacts that CGC, Tstan, and company have, we have a big advantage over other schools in placing these former SA's in jobs which will allow them to complete their degrees at GT. So, to me, processing can be a win/win situation for us and our SA's.

Ajani Kerr is no longer listed on the roster. Not sure if it's a mistake or what.

I remember him walking on senior day.

He was a RS Junior last year, so that makes sense. Has one more year of eligibility though.

Would make all the sense in the world for him to move on as a grad transfer. CBs are a young and crowded group.

Did you really say, consider dropping his own scholarship because he lacks meaningful playing time? Unbelievable. That’s one of the reasons a fine SA chooses us.
