If we could keep any team to single digits, I would the very...very...very happy.
Who wouldn't? Not even Bama kept teams to an average of single digits... If this is your baseline, no coach will ever make you happy.
It seems the only decent team we can beat anymore is VT.
FSU says hello. uga say hello.
The D took its share of fault in the UVA game. Giving up last minute points, is on them.
So no credit for stopping them on 11/18 drives and continuously dealing with poor field position?
It's ridiculous to expect the O to score on every drive.
Agreed, but in the UVA game, they scored on 4 of 17 drives. 9 of those 17 drives used very little time, gained very few yards, and ended up with a punt or TO. The O was absolutely putrid for most of the game.
Whether it be scheme, talent, depth or lack of execution, the D failed to hold onto late leads in 4 games.
Only one of those three things is a coaching problem.
I think the D pulled us through one game.. One game out of 11... To me, that is an issue
This is an interesting statement. If you expect the D to be pulling us through games, then you expect our O to be deficient. I expect our D to keep us in position for the O to win games, and if our O had done their jobs this year, we'd be 8-3 or 9-2 right now.
Looking at next year, I expect the O to be better.
So do I.
I expect the ST to be better.
It can't get worse
I expect a decline in the D. Roof had a veteran team and still could not get it done. Now he lost his seniors, you honestly expect the D to get better?
Yes. I think that we are in a position to make strides on D. The hero of the VT game is the CB who will replace Durham. L. Simmons, who will replace Austin, already has lots of PT and experience. I would not be surprised to see us play more 4-3 instead of 4-2-5 because I think we'll see BJS and Mitchell both get on the field at the same time. I wouldn't be shocked if you see BJS play some situational DE. Tre Swilling will start to see the field. I think the DL will continue to improve as well. Initially, we might see some dropoff, but it won't be huge, and by the end of the season, we should see some improvement over this season.
Now, I know you are anti-CTR and have camped out on this position for the past two years, but you also told me last year that we would be equally bad or worse as a defensive unit in 2017 than 2016. I'm just saying to look at things without the bias. We aren't good, and CTR has his faults, but trotting out arguments like "out-dated," "has been," etc. as proof of your points overlooks the fact that CTR runs schemes similar to lots of other successful coaches. He has been successful in some places, not so successful in others. I don't think the problem is coaching, but rather personnel and execution. Eventually, we'll have to hold him accountable, but I don't think firing a guy trending in the right direction is the right answer.
