Lol you might want to go back and read my comments after @Yomanser made his comments. I think you are so caught up in defending your opinion you think I had my mind made up, when I’ve admitted Roof is probably better than what I thought. Must have missed that right? But yea I’m the one that has my mind made up. You’ve even gone to the point of defending your opinion and bringing up completely irrelevant comments that aren’t even about the subject.

Admittedly, when a poster makes a habit of making posts I find lack merit or insight...I tend to start skimming their further posts. So I might have missed some rare gem of yours.

Where exactly did I go off topic btw?

It's not completely out of the realm of possibility, but I think you are correct. I think the likely hindrance would be the money. Not sure what a CFL HC makes, but if it's in the millions at all we can't afford him as a coordinator here.

FWIW, our first ST coach under CPJ came from the CFL, though admittedly not a HC.

Ted Roof's salary was greater than that of any CFL head coach, including those who also serve as general managers. As of last March, Toronto HC Marc Trestman was the highest paid CFL head coach, about $600,000 annually. Most CFL head coaches earn in the $275-400,000 range, annually. You can look it up. :) Remember, even though Canadian football is long-established, it is not near as big a part of the sports culture in Canada as football is in the USA.

We were talking about recruiting you mentioned having a top D in conference. I still think you are missing my point on a lot of stuff and are reading to much into my comments, but it’s not a big deal. We both have opinions they just differ on some and on other they don’t.

No, but you came across as if Yomass didn't really know what he's talking about. I trust Yomass over you today, tomorrow, and next week.

No, I just asked questions lol. I think you’re reading a little to much into it..... if someone is not informed about something, the smart thing is to ask questions to get a better understanding.

Lol the offense went 90 yards against UVA to go up, that’s what you call clutch and doing your job to win. The D gave up a TD the following drive in just 1 minute and 28 seconds, and left the offense 1 minute and 22 seconds left in the game to score. They also went 56 yards in a minute and 22 seconds to set up a game winning field goal that was missed against UT. I’d call that clutch as well, missing the field goal isn’t on the offense, and if it was made this wouldn’t even be a conversation as to if the O was clutch or not. The O did what needed to be done in both of those games to put it away. You should have used better games for your analogy of the offense not being able to put a game away.

Wait the o did what it needed to against ut to put the game away? How? They didn't score to go up two scores and they didn't score to win it in regulation. They didn't ice the game. They turned it over. Wait never mind that was an offensive player. Not the offense lol. Oh they got in field goal range. Well guess that makes them clutch. Tell me what did they do on the previous two drives up by 7 and a chance to put the game away? Nothing.

Against uva the offense went 90 yards after the d forced a 3 and out following the offense giving up a safety. And that was given up after the defense forced a 3 and out after the offense gave up an int. So I guess the offense should be commended for not completely kissing the bed three straight possessions? After the defense got a pick 6 the offense went ing, punt, punt, punt, int, safety. But that is the offense doing it's job to put the game away?

Of course in both games the offense had a chance to win the game on the last possession but failed. For some reason I guess it's the last drive for the defense but the second to last drive for the offense that is used to judge whether they are clutch.

Yaull acting like bc offense didnt ice the game that its fine defense let them go all way down the field to tie at the end...bc it was offenses fault...team game, pick the other unit up, that simple

Team game. Both sides at fault. Yet dc gets shown the door and the oc remains free of blame. Gotcha.

The offense is typically a top 25 type performance year after year. Last year IMHO was one of the weakest O's I had seen and it was still a good offense.
I felt like the DC should have been given one more year after the improvements we saw last year, but Roof has constantly not been able to field a very strong unit. Not even on par with the talent he has on that side of the ball.

I am OK with the decision to let Roof go. I would not mind a few minor tweaks on the offense but I am very glad we are running it at Tech. Any tweaks I may want, may not actually make sense because I probably don't know the team weaknesses that the coach is trying to mask.

you are completely ignoring that the O was clutch when it mattered. We were losing and then went down the field to score. Nothing else matters at that point, the offense put us ahead. Same against UT, they put us in position to win when it mattered most, at that point nothing else mattered. How did the offense fail in the last possession of the games? They had 1:22 to score and had to go around 75 yards to do so? And they went over 50 yards to still put us in position to win, yet that’s a fail lol? And then then scored with barley over 4 minutes left and then couldn’t score again with around a minute left, and that’s a fail? We must have different definitions of failing. But you have your opinion and I have mine.

How did we get into debating offense vs defense blame? Over the last 5 years that Roof has been here, our defense has never broken the top 60 in FEI and our offense has been top 40 four times. Below are the ranks with offense first and defense second.

2013 - 39 and 77
2014 - 3 and 70
2015 - 88 and 62
2016 - 21 and 94
2017 - 23 and 66

I think in general our schedule is consistently loaded with good defensive opponents. Clemson, Virginia Tech, and uga almost always fit that and all rank in the top 10 this year. And this year Miami was ranked 11, Duke was 34, and Virginia was just outside the top 40, which most of us would be very happy with having. Scoring on these teams is tough and should not be taken for granted. Everyone we faced was at least in the top 80 from what I saw.

On the other side of the equation, the offenses have historically not been as good on our schedule, especially in our conference. This year uga had the best offense at rank 3. Followed by a large drop to Clemson at 18, Wake Forest at 30, and Miami at 39 to top the Coastal. 4 teams ranked 80th or more. What I'm saying is that you can't compare directly how units play since the opponents' individual units aren't equal. The defense needs to be able to hold these relatively weak offenses more efficiently than they have. It's great that our offense is able to score at all, hence why they're awarded high ranks each year.

Those are painful numbers for the D. No arguing that. I think there are some reasons outside of coaching for it but that's water under the bridge. I think next year will be our best year for talent and depth on D since 2009.

As for last year and this year. Last year the ACC had the best offenses of any conference imo. (No we didn't face Louisville or FSU) This year I think the offenses were down but the defenses were improved overall. No stats to back it up, just my perception.

You've been here 2 weeks.

I won’t assume anything before I ask, Is there a time requirement before new members can expect civi discourse ?

Whiskey clear has clearly violated the rules of this board and I’m not the only one he takes aim at.

Whiskey Clear Invest a lot of time getting personal over posts that he disagrees with. He seems to have trouble understanding two concepts : that he isn’t always right and that he has no right to be disrespectful to anyone. Seems a little unuasual for people who are supposedly interested in the same thing - a seccessful football team, to invest so much improper behavior in responding to post he disagrees with.

Especially when there was not shot at him (or her) to begin with, unless of course he is offended that you don’t agree with him.

In short he is a bully.

Let me speak even slower for you. Our D has never taken the field, regardless of starting field position the offense they faced possessed, and simply surrendered points with a shrug.

They fought like hell to prevent a score, regardless in their success of meeting that goal. Your presumption that they ever did less is ignorant and insulting to our SAs. I'd continue but don't want to get banned for issuing a personal insult.

Whiskey you are rude person plain and simple.

I cannot help the fact that you appear to lack cognitive abilities. This is a thread on Ted Roof and that is who/what my comments have been pointed at. I have NEVER dis respected our SAs - NEVER ! You hide behind your hate of the triple option or CPJ by deflecting.

Everything I have said is directed at Roofs scheme and or his coaching. It’s impossible to talk about Roof and the defense he runs without citing player positions, tactics or poor form BECAUSE they are all coaching issues — they aren’t personal insults toward players !

Make sure you understand this though because it IS directed at you. There is no reason for a jerk to be on a social site where he pretends to be interested in conversation about anything. Apparently you don’t accept the thoughts and opinions of others when they aren’t in lock step with your own.

You are a sad example of civility. Your fake outrage is laughable given you have no hesitation in incorrectly interrupting comments and firing off personal insults, all to protect the innocent people., when you are in fact the abuser.

Please leave me alone I won’t talk to or post on your stupid statements from this point on, I would appreciate you giving me the same effort.

Rather than reading your insulting behavior I’m blocking you so do t waste your time

Mmmm. Nah. I enjoy your very civil discourse too much for that. Feel free to hit that "ignore" button tho sweet cheeks. Free country and all.

And regardless of results, it's preposterous to assert Roof or any other coach ever willingly acceded points. Maybe the rare exception of knowing they'd get the ball back with enough time to spare to score if points given up immediately. Very very rare that.

The subscription services (247) have Coach Cook as the lead on the Swillings. I'm sure Ted had an effect just as other factors probably did, but I'm just giving another source.

Our own Yomanser said point blank that Roof was instrumental in the Swillings recruitment.

I'll refer you to Yomanser's post in the closed thread Roof.

Here is the direct quote from Yomanser: "FYI, TK Chimedza (currently committed 4-star defensive tackle) is entirely a Roof product. We wouldn't have him committed without Roof in the picture. This also applies to the Swillings, one of which was an Army All-American and consensus 4-star. They also committed because of Roof. Along with them, Jaquan Henderson was a 4-star who whose main recruiter was Roof. Beyond those, TD Roof, Xavier Gantt, and currently committed Malachi Carter are all high-ceiling highly-regarded Roof recruits that I can name off the top of my head. He's also had us in the discussion with several high-profile recruits that Tech didn't end up landing, but wouln't have had a shot at without him. We're only now starting to see the benefits Roof is providing us in recruiting."

I haven't been around the last couple of days and haven't read this whole thread, but I just wanted to say I don't like it and yes I was a pro Ted Roof guy.
Beyond X's and O's and everything else of why you are for or against ... the way this came down just doesn't smell right to me.
I hope I'm wrong and this turns into a positive ...
