Returning players for 2021-22

I would think most have to return and they all go out. They have had 2 solid seasons with good results and most either have their degree or are close. I would suspect most will give it a try to get to the next level. I agree with the comment that Devoe will probably not come back if most of the Seniors don't return. Of course the flipside of that is he would be the man and could potentially put up larger stats if he is the one returning Senior. But it will be difficult to have a winning year with how young we will be and how inexperienced we will be if our Seniors and Devoe go out.

Okay I love you guys pumping up Devoe to declare for the NBA but he just isn't that guy right now. There is a sup 5% chance he would be drafted even if he killed workouts.
Every junior with even fringe NBA hopes should absolutely declare for the draft and get feedback. Not only does it let you know where you stand but also provides you with the things you need to work on. If you don't like your draft prospects you can come back to school. There is absolutely no downside to going through the process.

I think scouts will look at the tape of Moses struggling against lengthier bigs and have real concerns. He’s going to have to develop a jump shot to make it, which he’s shown hints of. Whether he does that at Tech, overseas, or the G league, his call. Guys with motors and a niche have been able to carve out long productive NBA careers. PJ Tucker, while not the same skill set as Moses, is an example of one of those guys.

Jose and Devoe can also probably have long careers overseas, if they want them.

All the seniors are gone. I can't imagine a good reason to return to college for the sole purpose of playing on its basketball team. I also don't believe Devoe will get the kind of feedback he would need to be an early entrant to the NBA draft.

agree with all of this. against those long athletic players going 1v1 i thought his production dropped significantly. (perhaps not always in the boxscore because of putbacks transition etc, but in 1v1 matchups. but scouts aint looking at boxscores and they aint looking at film of him going against big slow 5s.) also think his ability to breakdown perimeter defenders (modern 4s) is not nearly good enough. he does it fairly well against bigger/slower 5s, but that will not be what he sees in the pros. imo, *if* a team drafts him late 2nd round it will be as a developmental player to send to the G-league. the question is: does he want to further develop those skills at GT in the ACC as an alpha-dog or in the G-league with limited minutes off the bench. otoh, even if he is getting limited game minutes in the G-league, he still gets to work full-time job of bball development with pro coaches and trainers and no college academic distractions.

One other upside for Moses is he can guard the perimeter so he isn't an absolute liability on the pick and roll. And to be fair no one is going to call plays for him at the next level - especially any kind of iso play. The development play is for him to be a rim runner developing into a player with a shot off of guard action - as long as he holds up on D and has high energy. Obviously think second team for him

Base pay in G League is $35k for 5 months. I’m not sure how you handle the other 7 months, since you need to be nearly full time training to get out of G League

great point. athletic defensive specialist on 2nd unit who can defend inside and out. can switch the PNR and is able to keep up with 2nd unit guards. could totally see that. they love versatile athletic defenders with length to allow for switching.
but on the other end of the court, i would think he needs to be able to know down nba 3s as a stretch 4 or on pick and pops.

If there is one thing that I have learned about this topic is that I have given up trying to predict what players or NBA teams will do. I have spent so much time scratching my head over kids' decisions to declare and also some NBA teams' decision to draft that I want to go find a de-lousing shampoo.

Some situations are just unpredictable by their nature.

I think it is better to just passively wait and see what happens.

If he gets drafted & sent to the G-League, he'll be getting paid on a contract. I think you're underestimating the what he'd earn in the G-League.

ETA; $35K is for players drafted by the G-League. There are a range of much better paying opportunities if an NBA team is getting your rights.

Not to mention, they can make good money overseas.

The NBA league minimum is about $900k, so a player who gets drafted and occasionally sent would be in great shape. But you don’t want to spend too much time in G League

If you get drafted, you're gonna negotiate a nice signing bonus to cover that.

Downplaying the monetary opportunity is a bit shaky of a narrative.

ETA: Here's the scenario I'd advise Moses to come back to school - He realizes in his heart of hearts that he never wants to play pro ball of any sort, wants to graduate and go open his seafood restaurant (His stated long term goal from interviews). If that's what he really wants, then stay in school, play, keep taking applicable business classes, and network for investors & operators.

... Pay in college is a lot less.. well for most.. 😉

If drafted a sent to G league, the pay is probably $100k+.

If an UDFA and sent, still probably more than base salary.
