Georgia Tech and Boston College are in Dublin, Ireland, preparing for the third ever ACC game outside the United States.
While the focus for players and coaches is on the game, the support staff for both schools has spent months preparing. That includes gathering, packing and shipping everything needed to actually play the game, from helmets, jerseys and pads, to down and distance markers, pylons and an entire
instant replay system.
So what has made the trip over?
For Georgia Tech:
- 37 total trunks of equipment, including 111 player equipment bags.
- Two carnets (or passports used for goods) with about 2,500 total lines.
- Total weight: about 20,000 pounds
Boston College had to bring more. As the designated home team, it was on the Eagles to bring over everything needed to put on the actual game, in addition to everything else that goes into running a football team throughout the week.
Here are a few of the more notable items, according to its final travel logs:
- 2 Sideline Chains Set and Down Box worth $650
- 2 ACC goal post wraps
- 2 locker room speakers (plus connector cord and two speaker mixers)
- 110 player suits worth $27,000
- 110 player equipment bags (helmet, shoulder pads, sneakers, 2 pairs of cleats, knee braces, hip thigh and knee pads, shower shoes) PLUS 110 personal player duffel bags
- 156 locker nameplates
- 9 trunks for video equipment
- 50 footballs worth $2,650
- 30 cases of Muscle Milk
- Hand heat packs and hand warmers also made the trip (high of 65 and rain is in the forecast for Saturday), along with rain jackets
Neither coach has a playbook to follow for how to best get prepared for a game so far from home, with a five hour time change. But they have been given everything they need from their operations staff to feel like they have more than a little piece of home with them.
