I think the one thing we are all forgetting is this: a kid has got to WANT to major in one of these. Aside from the fact that it's easier to "hide" an athlete in Music Arts vs. Public Policy, we just don't have the variety of majors that other places may have. So yeah, we find a smart kid who's a 4* LB ... but he wants to major in criminal justice because his parents are cops. Or Japanese because he loves anime and wants to be a cartoonist. Or Film and Video studies because he wants to make documentary films about racial injustice. We're going to miss out on those guys.
I still strongly feel we have to recruit nationally. There are kids who want to major in what we offer, who are good players, who are GT guys ... they just might be in Oklahoma, or Nevada, or Oregon, or New York ... we just need to find them. And that takes time and money.
