I'm not for Collins. He has a worse record than the coach before him, and the record isn't impressive anyway. But, more than that, he had a bad (ie unethical) rep in the way he left GT. If we get anyone who even smells unethical, I'm done as a fan - GT is not foundational to life. Ethics are. No contest.

Jeff Monken, purely as a candidate, with his resume, blows these other names out of the water. It's not even close. His floor is no worse than the status quo (which is pretty darn great), and his ceiling is even higher (which is amazing to think about).
The triple option is gone.

Man, we are so on the same page. I don't think our desires will be heard, but I agree 100% about Monken. I will not be "against" Collins, but I do think Monken deserves it more.

Remember, GTSwarm, this is my opinion - it is not life and death - I am ok with others having a different opinion than Vamos and me.

I think calling what geoff did unethical is a stretch. He called on our recruits. That happens all the time. The one piece u may be wondering is peek. But that was not collins pulling as much as receiving. Peek was leaving regardless cuz cpj. So alot of this was butthurt by tech more than true impact. Chris Jackson was being tugged by his handler to go to bama more than collins....

As far as record nope not as good as rhules for sure.

TBH, I'm not a fan of keeping the "pure option" offense, but Monken is a damm good coach. As good as CPJ was for GT, I think Monken could improve on it. He actually has decent defenses, and he's willing to implement outside schemes in his offense.

May be blasphemy, but I think in terms of pure coaching (both sides of the ball and willingness to incorporate outside schemes) Monken has surpassed CPJ.

Here's a direct quote from Roddy Jones about Geoff Collins.
“Everybody in the class loved coach Collins,” Jones said. “We were all really sad when he left to go to Alabama.”

That is a really good quote, and thank you, Gold1, for sharing that.

5 star players go where they think it is the "easiest" path to the NFL - that will never be the Institute, unless the NFL adopts the one and done rule, like the NBA/Men's College hoops.

Agreed, Techster, and I do really believe he would expand the O, while keeping some of the tactical base of the 3O. I don't know this, so it is just my opinion. It is what I told TStan in my email to him.

The Collin Peek thing is overated. Why? Pretty obvious...Peek was a TE. CPJ wanted to line him up outside and be a pure blocker. Collin Peek said that's exactly why he transferred...GT wasn't going to utilize him the way he was recruited to GT for...to be a complete TE. Peek was transferring somewhere regardless.

To use "stealing Collin Peek" for 'Bama is misleading. VERY misleading.

I'd take him as an OC. All day. Has a reputation for being hard to work with, but the guy knows offense...IF the HC leaves him alone.

The Jon Tenuta of offense. I dunno, I'm not sold on an offense that relies on Jet motion and the potential for a handoff. But then again, who can like an offense that relies on the fullback dive for 3 yards?

I'd be willing to entertain Monken if he would open up the offense and pass more than 4-5 times a game. The limits the under center option places on us are obvious to me. We need to shoot for something better rather than maintaining status quo.

Issue I have with this, (and no confrontation here, just talking) is when you are taking over a program, you are putting your stamp on it, and that isn’t something that happens over night, it’s not always an easy transition. As another poster stated, Saban even did this same thing. The other thing is this, not every schedule is made equally, maybe he had a tougher schedule, maybe he took over a young team with a lot of seniors leaving. There are so many more variables to look at than overall record. If I’m not mistaken, he has been a finalist at 3 different schools for the Broyles Award, guy knows what he’s doing. Imo at GT you don’t go with a “safe pick” because that still might not work out. You go with upside and a guy who has been successful at multiple stops, and been under some very good coaches, and to me, that’s Collins.

The alleged 48 hours for Whiz has to be up no later than 6 pm today (and really before). Chernoff mentioned his text at about 6:00 pm on Monday evening (I recall because I was in my car heading to Lowes for an extension cord for the Xmas lights). The flight referenced had to before the text and maybe even in the am., from Pittsburgh. The end is near for the KW suspense.

Who waits until December 3rd to put up Christmas lights?

Yeah I don’t think so man and I don’t really think we should make light of a serious topic

I know I shouldn't kid about how bad the coaching search is. Have you been on this board much? There are people who probably should take heed of this tweet. OK, I digress, and may have made my first bad joke worse.

So listen, I apologize to anybody who took offense to my joke. But since this tweet wasn't in response to any particular person, I felt I had such leeway. If you found it distasteful, that wasn't my intent. My intent was to make people happy and laugh during a difficult time.
