Other than being a “skeptic”...on what do you base your evaluation of Candeto???
I acknowledge a part of it is skepticism that a Johnson QB based on Navy and GT, anyway, actually knows the mechanics and fundamentals of throwing a football well enough to teach them. It is one of those specialized skills that, like FG kicking, looks simple until you try it. (Clemson's Bryant against Alabama, in his 14th game as a starter, still was opening up and stepping into the throw late, and the pass rush had nothing to do with it. He is simply mechanically flawed, they have not been able to iron it out, and Swinney has a difficult decision to make next spring. But he is paid enough and fortunately for him he has a deep if young stable.) His stats with Johnson actually looked about par, throwing 10-12 times a game and as a senior he got better than 1,100 yards and almost 50%. But a total of 230 passes in two seasons doesn't give me confidence. (Not to mention that the run and shoot portion seems predicated on the idea of getting it close to a one-on-one receiver and he must find a way to catch it, and I wonder if he had that trouble of throwing the very deep ball.)
On the other hand I stumbled over this interesting piece that, if you are not a stickler for details, details, is interesting. Has some gaps but among my discoveries was that he scored six TDs against Army in 2003, Johnson's second year, which I did not know. (So those complaining about Marshall hanging on to the ball, take note.)
