It’s time to stop with Johnson hot seat talk

http://www.macon.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/peach-state-sports-blog/article118030968.html

You can almost set your watch by it: Paul Johnson was on the hot seat again this season.

It’s a story line that pops up every season no matter what Johnson has accomplished as Georgia Tech’s head coach. And it just makes no sense.

Sure, Georgia Tech fans have the right to want more from their program, but if Georgia Tech fans are realistic about their program, they would appreciate what they have in Johnson. Maybe it’s the offense. Maybe it’s Johnson’s personality. But I’m not sure what the reason would be for fans wanting Johnson to go.

I’m not a huge fan of the offense, but it has worked, and I like Johnson’s personality. He’s smart, and he’s confident, and I like that in a head coach. And he wins games.

That’s a pretty good combination, and it’s time for Georgia Tech fans to appreciate that.

I remember being with UT boosters on the way to a Vols game. They wanted to fire Johnny Majors, the head coach.

"He can't win," they said.

He had just gone 9-3 the previous year.

All glory is fleeting.

Not that it matters, because CPJ would probably punch this guy in the face anyhow for even thinking of something like this:

Georgia Tech: B+ - With a lesser record in conference than teams behind him, why does Paul Johnson get a better grade? Because Georgia Tech was projected to finish sixth in the division and he was supposed to be fired by now. Instead, the Yellow Jackets are 8-4 with a win over Georgia.

Anyone who grades coaches based on comparing a team's W-L to their own personal expectations shouldn't be getting paid for their opinion.

Not sure why Fuente gets an A (B+ tops IMO), but all the rest seem reasonable.

Fuentes' A seems justified but not due to anything Foster-related. Foster has the look of a guy who knows he's just not HC-caliber. If he were, he would've been one by now. As such, it appears he's resigned to just stay in his lane.
