Paul Johnson's job

And in 9 seasons, he has taken us to the OB twice, winning once, had a top-5 rushing team how many times?, and won the ACC once, despite the stupid NCAA. That's more than we had done in the previous 9 years, and more than the mutts have done. So to you, I say "HELLO"
His record is basically the same as Gomer's was in 8 years. At the beginning of Paul's time on the flats he was running no one in the conf has ever seen, but after 8 years of seeing the same offense Duke has been able to handle this offense. When the dukes of the world start stopping you, it's time to do some tweeking. We all know that isn't going to happen. It seems if a player isn't smart enough to get a PHD, he isn't smart enough to pick up and run Paul's "unstoppable" offense.

We will know for sure by end of year so be positive till then.
Please notice he has added the short passes to ab and bb (in miami game) so he is tweeking. Ol is doing legal holding on pass plays so its a regular tweek fest! Coach is hardly running any TO and he is doing great play calling and that moves us to a tweek riot. He is playing a tall athletic but not heavy true freshmen at rg.

We can and should win next 3 games

Firing Roof would and should happen first. If they like Roof, as recruiter. Let him be that, a recruiter. His schemes are old and outdated. Johnson needs to learn to pass the load on some things. He gets stuck on some plays. I think he is a genius with the triple option. Hiwever; he doesn't teach pass progression or timing worth a flip.

IMO recruiting had gotten better in the last two classes and this year's class so far looks like a continuation of the trend.

I think it's self evident when one looks at what some of these guys are doing already. Problem is these are second year, tr fr, or a HS sr players right now.

Thing is, I see the ACC as a whole is stronger. VT is scary with a real offense, Carolina has woken up, Pitt is a tough team under Narduzzi, and Clemson, FSU, and Louisville are going to be top 10 teams more years than not. Even Duke is a tough out now. We may have two ACC playoff teams this year.

So it remains to be seen if we are progressing or treading water. In general though I think long term we are going to be fine. This season one can see a lot of new names showing up and doing good things.

Tech in this day and age is a weird animal. I dont think revolving doors with coaches is the answer. You have to have a good coach and give him the resources to recruit and hire other good coaches. Johnson's been short on resources but still has done some impressive things. I think Stansbury gets GT and is going to be a good fit.

Just me but I 'm going to pull for our kids and program as long as they keep working and getting better.

Sorry GTL, but here are the problems. No real good H.S. players want to play for johnson with the TO. Eliminate johnson, hire a competent wide open offense head coach and watch the recruiting improve.
Right, because that's worked so well for us in the past.

He's always thrown to AB's. In fact, at one time that is all he threw to because BeBe was gone, Hill couldn't catch a cold, AB was the last option. OL is playing worse in yr 8 than it did in yr 1 when we had TE's converting to play OL. Speaking of tweeking, didn't Klock get promised he would be involved in the offense other than blocking. He was a TE in HS. Has that happened NO. He gets stuck on plays because he has nothing in his hand to remind of the other plays in the offense. When a person is running a game by just thinking about what to do, instead of reading or having a situational playbook of sorts, it is easy to get in a rut.

Not sure he gets stuck in a rut. I think he just believes that the is no inherent value in doing anything else or he believes the guys can't learn anything else or the coaches can't coach it. He hasn't used a play card in a very long time plus he's got guys giving him stuff on the comms. In my opinion it is much more of it's just what he does. Honestly the frustration with the offense for me is mostly that the guys can't seem to execute lately and it seems like that is becoming a trend. Maybe it's just the quality of opposition, but I don't think that the teams we play next are going to get significantly easier going forward. I know that I am holding the offense to an unfair standard because I think that the offense has to be pretty good for us to win consistently. It is my opinion that the defense "is what it is" and won't be significantly better any time soon under PJ/Roof.

Sometimes i get the feeling that CPJ is kinda stubbern and starts feeling that if we can't execute X play then we don't deserve to win

You apparently don't remember Ralph Friedgen and a QB named Joe Hamilton.
And how many years ago was that? And how many other times in our past can you point to such successes? Not only that, but Fridegen didn't run the kind of offense that several guys on here keep insisting we need to run in order to succeed. Chan ran that kind of offense, and we see what good that did us.

I would love to see what Friedgen could do with Justin Thomas and our offensive personnel on our roster this season.
IMO, our talent level is good and by spreading out the defense and making them defend the entire field including pitch and catch type of pass plays we would have much success.

Fridge's approach to the offense probably wouldn't be all that different from what we currently do, with the exception of a more varied pass attack. I think he and Johnson would mesh pretty well from a technical point of view, but probably not so much on the personal level.

Former Tennessee head coach Phil Fulmer is a good friend of Paul Johnson and he told Paul when he was hired as head coach at GT that the SEC was happy that they didn't have to coach against him. He said Paul Johnson had a good sense of humor but was arrogant.

"more varied pass attack" ... Bingo, which would slow down the LB's and DB's from crashing the LOS and make them defend the whole field.
I think Justin Thomas could be a good duel-threat QB, he just doesn't get enough passing opportunities.

Dude, i don't think ANYone is calling for a return to the Chan Gailey Pro-style offense. What many would like to see eventually when CPJ is done is a spread option attack similar to what Baylor, UNC, Louisville , Clemson etc are running. We get a lot of good recruits who want to come to Tech despite our offensive system, with a more acceptable system (in the minds of recruits) there's no reason why we couldn't succeed going forward. We should be able to recruit better on both sides of the ball with the right system/coach. There's a larger pool of high quality recruits available with quality highschool educations now than ever before.

I wish Justin Thomas could pass as well as Josh Dobbs of Tennessee. I think the offense would be a lot more effective if that were the case.

Actually, there are quite a few people who think a pro-style offense is what we need. It's obvious they know nothing about football.

Dobbs only completed 1 pass last year when the ball was in the air for 30 yards or more. Honestly he's not that accurate, although he has made strides from last year to this year. I think JT could come close to being as good of a passer.

Hopefully you are not saying that pulling for the kids and supporting the program are the same thing as supporting a particular HC? They are not the same.
Peterson needs to make sure our HC gets the staff & facilities he needs.
But Paul is in his NINTH year. He is the man responsible. I do not think he is capable of making decisions that may need to be made.
