kids in athens don't get away with stuff kids at GT do every day. Its called athens PD vs ATL PD. One has bigger fishes to fry and overlooks everything GT SA's do practically. I could tell you stories that would blow away the dumb things UGA's SA's get arrested for. Sure I am not talking about the stuff like rape, stolen weapons etc. But stuff like driving without license. Drinking underage, pott, etc etc.....GT SA's do that as much as anyone and get away with it....trust me. Its a hot mess for so many athletes because they literally are probably the most strict PD out there...not kidding...
GT is not perfect, but they do not have party's in the dorms w drug dealers( w guns) and at GT the players are not having to lock up everything so their teammates don't steal from each other . It's a huge difference in the character of those locker rooms. UGA police will not arrest you if you not out of control or just STUPID. You really think with 35,000 students that the police are only looking for football players? Maybe if they would not Smoke weed in public or shoot pellet guns at students as the get off the elevator or park in handicap parking spaces passed out they would not get arrested. I know some GT players do stupid things but the percentage is much lower that what goes on at UGA. The turning point for me was when my 15 year old son got offered drugs everytime he went to hang out w my older son. A much greater percentage of UGA players do drugs than GT. GT loses more to academics than drugs. You cannot flunk out of UGA unless you just completely stop going to class.

This is an idiotic statement. I'm sorry, but this thinking needs to stop within our fan base.
I have been in both school dorms on many occasion. I know players who had classes at UGA w my older son that slept thru classes and made better grades than my son who was a 2 year SEC Honor Roll student ( who Graduated w a 3.78 from GT). Tutors writing SA's papers during study hall, its all there. Believe it if you want to or not. But there are real reasons a Letterman w a son at that school, did not want his younger son going there.

I get what you are saying about the drugs but uga has a lot more students which could make it look like a higher percentage when it's really not or it could be GT is smarter about keeping it hid than kids at UGA. I personally don't know just saying this could be a possibility.

I would put quite a bit of stock into observations from a former player with 2 sons, one who played at both schools, who has been around SAs all his life rather that a random poster. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but 1st hand experience speaks volumes.

Fwiw, these guys may not know Flea played football for u[sic]ga and had one son on their baseball team and the other recruited for their football team w/in the last few years.

It's not like he's a typical Tech fan.

I think it has more with the difference in the players each school can recruit. Im talking about drug use and academics within the 105 on the respective teams. Im not naive and believe that all GT's players are squeaky clean. Will does not lock his locker and yet nothing gets stolen, at UGA if its not under lock and key its gone. Grated its not everybody on the team doing that, they have some great kids . It was bad enough that I knew I did not want Will going there. I think a lot of parents if they had my knowledge would feel the same way. I have been in several GT dorms and have not seen Kegs in the frig , 6 half full handles ( during the season) on dressers, the sweet smell of " burning leaves" in the hallway... Do GT players smoke dope ? sure, we have had a few kicked off the team for it. The percentage though is much less at GT in my opinion. Just based on my experience over the past 5 years w sons attending both schools.

Pretty small sample size, but pretty par for the course amongst the Tech fans. I've been hearing that same mumbo jumbo for years. Tech is good, UGA is bad. We are great young men, they are thugs. We are a southern MIT, they are barely accredited, you can just show up and get a degree, Yada Yada Yada.

Whatever helps you sleep at night and whatever helps you feel better about that 13-2 run Richt and his boys have paddled us with for more than a decade.

Do they have bad apples? Hell yes. Does Tech have bad apples? Hell yes.

Or it could be as I told some of my UG fraternity brothers when asked why I supported Tech athletics. I stated, "Being an alumnus of both schools, I know the difference. You're just guessing!" You should consider listening to flea77 and others who have experience with both schools and their respective athletic associations. There is a difference.

lol. I know graduates (athletes) from both schools as well, since we're measuring.

I'm just not gonna play along with the Tech is holy and UGA is evil nonsense. That's just absolutely ridiculous. But by all means continue on your crusade.

Mamba out.

Without a doubt Flea has experience with both schools and I appreciate his opinion.

So your telling me that a more acedimically rigirous school is not going to recruit an athlete that tends to make better decisions? I don't really follow your logic.

When I was in the AE program I studied with a walk on and a starter who would talk about how much easier uga players had it. Basically only had to show up to class, and would party every night. Sure they had tutors that would help them learn the material (not for AE though, unfortunately), but they didn't have people that would do their homework, write their papers, and help them cheat on tests.

I will continue to believe that we recruit a better breed of human being than that of uga. People who want to get an education as well as continued their football career.

We all have opinions... This is just my experience. Both schools have some fantastic young men. When I played a hundred years ago, we did not have lockers that had doors on them. When the trainer locked the main doors to the locker room your personal belongings were safe, wallet, watches etc... My older son had his gear stolen more than once in the UGA baseball locker room. The same thing happens in the football locker room. Its pretty easy to know those things when you speak with several of the players. I used to take some of the guys out to eat. 2 guys I really respect are Ray Drew and Chris Conley, I got to know them because Justin was friends with them. They are great guys. Justin and Will have never had anything stolen from their locker or room while at GT. That does not mean it won't happen, but it does speak to the overall " character of the locker room". Plus the amount of arrest at UGA vs GT is a no brainer. If a program has 8 arrest a year, then they have a major issue. Its not police targeting anyone, its players doing stupid things. Now I'm sure a lot of the same things go on at GT, I just believe its not near as often. One reason is the school work load is different. I was speaking with a UGA Coach several weeks ago and he said that they have no way to control the players at the dorms and they do stupid things because they have to much free time. No program is perfect but GT in my opinion is different. In a good way.

An odd attitude. First of all, most posters aren't saying GT is perfect and UGa is the Evil Empire, but they ARE saying there is a noticeable and concrete difference. And they are offering facts, both in terms of stats (arrest data, etc) and anecdotes (thanks Flea) to corroborate those opinions. All you have done is dismiss their statements, without offering either facts or anecdotes (other than a very vague statement about knowing athletes from both schools). If you have some specific knowledge, let's hear it. You should at least explain why you hold your views, or else you will be viewed as merely a troll....

Calling it down the middle isn't trolling. You're reaching.

You want facts like Reuben Houston, or more recently Darren Waller?

There's no need to go through a list of facts that should be common knowledge.

But I respect your opinion.

I have a tee time gentlemen, let's discuss this further this afternoon.
