I respect your integrity on the Key issue and get where your coming from Whiskey, but before you burn that bridge don’t you need proof that he actually did the crime? Innocent until proven guilty and all that.

It was pretty well acknowledged to have occurred at the time. Time has passed but the perception hasn’t. If he comes to Tech it should be addressed one way or the other imo.

A lot of people giving Key a pass for pooping all over the institute continue to revile Dave Brain. By comparison all Brain did was sat Tech is typically a 7 win football team. Apples to oranges imo and Key’s transgression was far more grievous imo. And one that will haunt him on the recruiting trail if he joins the Tech staff moving forward.

I am definitely not too excited about Key, if he is calling plays.

And, on his supposed recruiting malfeasance, it depends on what he did. If he told players that Tech expected you to study and there were fewer coeds, I don't have a problem with that, because it was true. If he embellished it to make it sound like it would be a terrible decision for the young men to choose GT, then, yes, as a GT alum, I would have a problem with that.

Whiskey, let’s say you were a coach at ucf, under O’leary mind you, recruiting a kid and it’s down to GT and Ucf. It’s your JOB to get that kid to ucf. You’ve made your best “ucf is great and the best place for you” pitch (or is this already traitorous conduct in your mind?) but the kid is still on the fence. You’re telling me that you wouldn’t then casually mention tech’s calculus requirement, the academic difficulty and of course no girls? If you didn’t and lost the kid, how do you think the conversation would go with O’Leary?
GO: what happened Brent?
BK: couldn’t sell him on ucf coach. Lost him to tech.
GO: huh. You know I love tech but did you mention techs calculus requirements, academic rigor and that there are no girls on campus?
BK: no sir. You know I went to tech. I bleed white and gold and couldn’t bring myself to say anything negative about the institute.
GO: that’s very commendable Brent! Let me go call coach Johnson.
BK: uh, call coach Johnson? Why?
GO: cuz you’re f#@&ing fired Brent. If he doesn’t have a job for you then you’re out of the coaching business.

So you are not going to support the program anymore over THIS?

With that said, I am not sold on Key calling plays. Nothing tells me he would be good at this. If anything, his history gives me pause. BUT .... if he is given co oc and ahc title just to get him to come recruit and coach ol then that’s great.

Now formulate a new scenario where Key tries to sell our 40 year plan. After pissing all over same while at UCF. That gonna play out in your head in a positive way?

If his only recruiting acumen is negative recruiting he will be up the river without a paddle now. If he’s such a great recruiter he shouldn’t have needed to piss on Tech academics.

This gift to competition will keep on giving.

So question: if your moral sensibilities are offended by Key who allegedly ran down his alma mater while recruiting for UCF, are you okay with hiring Sarkissian as OC, a guy who showed up drunk and slurring speech to a press conference?

I’m just wondering how you ever expect to refute a rumor of something that may have happened 10 years ago? Proving a negative is already iffy, but add in a decade of fog and there’s zero chance to ever find out the truth.

All he would need to do is disavow it. That would be enough for me unless disproven by the former recruits he used it on. Then I’m back to square one with him and he’d need a strong argument to square things.

There’s been no mention as to who will be calling plays. Second - Key is the OL coach for bama - the best program in the country. He’s not going to make a lateral move. I think his recruiting contacts and previous experiences working with Saban and GOL make it worth it to give him a title bump and more responsibility. Otherwise, why would he come? We’re not even on the same planet as Bama.

If he doesn’t love Tech more than Bama he should stay at Bama.

Co-Offensive Coordinator.

It's more of a glorified title to get him to move from 'Bama. Patenaude would be the actual OC calling plays and putting together the offense.

Do fluff titles really impress anyone in the football world? Does Key have an ego so big he can’t leave Bama to return to his alma mater without a promotion in title only?

Doesn’t compute for me.

I understand I may be a bit whiny but it comes from 2 places.

1) we’re a P5 ACC school who is not a doormat. We shouldn’t act like a desperate program. People should have some qualifications for the jobs we give them.

2) we had a consistent identity the pst 11 years to everyone who even remotely followed CFB. I’m really not looking forward to becoming just another lower level school. I constantly say “we could easily become Oregon state. When was the last time you thought about their football team?”

I think with the right ingredients we could become the Oregon of the south.

We are severely lacking on the $$$$$$ to do it.

If his “negging” of GT was in fact nothing more than a drastic mis-representation of a conversation over a decade ago, honestly what good does it do for him to issue any sort of statement about it? There’s no way to “prove” what happened one way or the other, so maybe we should all take the rhetoric over it down 2-3 notches. If he’s truly coming back, I would expect anything like that to have been covered appropriately during his interviews with Collins and Stansbury. We as fans aren’t entitled to have every silly rumor answered for publicly.

If they want to keep the fanbase they do. I know I’m in the minority on this one but your last sentence isn’t true. I don’t classify this as a silly rumor maybe that’s where we disagree.
