Free agent third baseman Maikel Franco is likely to choose his next club either today or tomorrow, tweets MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. The former Phillies and Royals slugger has been connected to both the Mets and the Orioles over the past week, and Heyman now adds that the Braves are among the teams “in the mix” for Franco.

I wouldn't mind signing him, but it also doesn't make a ton of sense unless we want him as the RH pinch hitter.

We’re all starting in first place. Tied.
We‘re all starting in last place. Tied.
We’re all going to send players down.
We’re all going to bring players up.
We‘re all experienced with having an injury.
We’re all experienced with finding a surprise.

We’re all in the NL East.
We’re all hoping for a World Series Championship.

The Mets are in agreement on an extension with star shortstop Francisco Lindor, reports Jon Heyman of MLB Network (Twitter link). The deal is in the $340MM range and contains deferrals, per Heyman. It’s a ten-year, $341MM deal, reports Anthony DiComo of MLB.com (Twitter link). The deal contains a limited no-trade clause with no opt-outs, per Andy Martino of SNY (via Twitter). It begins in 2022, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today. The deal contains about $50MM in deferred money, hears Joel Sherman of the New York. It comes with a $21MM signing bonus, per Sherman. Lindor will earn a flat $32MM in each season from 2022-31, with $5MM of that salary deferred each year to be paid from 2032-41, per Sherman. The no-trade clause covers 15 teams, Sherman adds.

Tim Kurkjiun was interviewed this morning and stated, the question is who will finish 5th in the NL East this year?

Prompts the question of are we in the best division of MLB?

Nationals have a Covid case... 1 player tested positive. 4 were close contacts. So... 5 players won't play tonight and unclear how long they will be out. No names, yet. But it has been reported Scherzer (tonight's starter) is not one of them.

I am pretty sure this move for Sam Clay (GT guy) to move "up" to big club is related.

Range of opening day emotions. Signed Lindor, then had opening day, and perhaps the series postponed. Hell of an April Fool's day...

deGrom 6 shutout IP on 77 pitches, the last of which was a 100 mph K of Harper. Mets offense 2 runs for deGrom, deGrom 2 hits, 1 of the 2 RBI. Up 2-0 when he left. Bullpen gives up 5 in the 8th to lose 5-3 and give deGrom another ND.

Same old Mets... New year, new billionaire owner, same results.

Well, the Mets scored enough for deGrom to win last night. Although he did his part at the plate: 2-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI (the first run of the game). Brought his BA down. Currently hitting 0.545 with a 5 game hitting streak, if I'm not mistaken...

The quote that caught my attention though was this from ESPN's wrap up:

"It goes down to just one pitch at a time," deGrom said, reducing the most overwhelming game-by-game performance of any current pitcher in baseball to a simple formula. "That's how I concentrate on a game. Hit my spot. If you end up missing it, so what. You've got to make the next pitch. But it's that focus on that pitch that you're about to throw that you can control. The previous games, those are over with."

Many Georgia Tech pitchers can learn from that...
