I remember 2-11 in the last 13 games against the pair. If we we 6-7 I don’t think it would bother me as much. 8-5 and it wouldn’t bother me at all.

Fair. I'm as anti-ugag in football as anybody. It's literally Tech and whoever is playing ugag every week. It's tough to consider any football season a success without a win over the mutts.

However, it's just such a smaller deal in baseball to me. Sucks to lose, but when we do there's a conference weekend to worry about right after that means so much more to our season. I wish we could convince that clown over in Athens to work with us to get it back to being a weekend series. I cared about it a lot more those seasons when that was the case. No midweek game is just ever going to compare to a big weekend series to me. This NCST series, the FSU series, the UNC series. Winning those series means infinitely more to me than a midweek game against the losers down 316 and their clown coach.

Wow, did I just miss the best game of the season so far?!?! It sure looks like it. This is the most excited I've been after a game all season, and I didn't even get to see it!

It looks like Tate McKee was dealing tonight, and Patel came in to pull the rope when needed. The only error was an errant pick-off attempt? Was this as well played and efficient as it seems on paper?

Indeed.

NCST's ace is a stud and we got to him early. We also hit several balls extremely hard right at people that were caught and had a few others caught at the warning track. Vahn in particular mashed one to the track in the first and then hit one about 200 mph (exaggerated obviously, don't think we got the actual number on the broadcast) right at the 1B that ended up being a double play.

Tate let the leadoff guy on in way too many innings, but battled around it all night and was excellent. Then Mason came in and was nails to shut the door.

I covered for you. It was a great game. Pitching was fantastic.

Defense was shaky. Schmidt misplayed a ball at 1st, Advincula was late to bag twice for DPs, WP moved their runner to 3rd with 1 out leading to their only run. A couple of ground balls got thru when we were not quick on the break.

Lackey nailed their base stealer on a play that should have been a SB. Brosius had some good plays in LF.

I feel like a lot of what you are calling late or not quick was due to us being in the shift. I didn't really see anything that would cause me to call the defense shaky. The shift giveth and the shift taketh. There were definitely two balls that may have been double plays if we weren't in the shift. However, the shift has also enabled us to make quite a few plays this season.

I think Schmidt's play that you were talking about was more on Tate being a little slow off the mound. Tate needed to be there for the toss, but Schmidt realized it was gonna be too close and thought his better chance at getting the out was to try to beat the runner to the bag himself.

I was only halfway paying attention for a few of the middle innings though while I was putting my toddler down, so maybe I missed something.

This game was closer to a run rule than a loss. I can’t remember a single ball that State hit hard. Not many out of the infield.

Nice to see Haynes King and Van de Berg supporting the baseball team tonight. They are both class acts.

Baseball was great. Great pitching. Little rusty after a week off on D, but shook it off after the first few innings. Our bats got silenced a little by good pitching, but some of it was wind blowing from LC to R in the outfield because we were still hitting it hard. IIRC Lackey hit one to left field that would have easily been out most days. Back tomorrow for hopefully a series win.

I agree with Decatur. Advincula was playing in short right field for both of the plays you described as him being late to the bag, due to the shift. I thought the defense was pretty good all game. Tate was really on tonight and the defense played to make the sure outs rather than risking a tough DP. Tate was able to start a couple of innings with an out on the first pitch of the inning which really helped keep his pitch count down. You knew Tate was on because nearly every ball hit was on the ground it seemed. He was also getting strikes with his fastball at a much higher clip than previous games.

Regarding Tate, I would say he also had a lot more "good misses" tonight too. He was living around the zone all night when he needed to and not leaving anything hanging over the plate. Even his last batter, where he walked him on 4 pitches, 3 of those pitches were very close to being strikes. There weren't nearly as many non-competitive pitches as he's had in most of his game.

We played well across the board, and honestly NC Stayes pitchers were very good. It was the most complete game we’ve seen against a good team.

I thought we played really good in the field - Advincula was a vacuum. Their only run shouldn’t have happened as the player advanced to third on a passed ball, but that and the pick off were the only real “unclean” plays that I saw. And that’s being really nit-picky.

Well pitched on both sides. Marohn and NCS relievers us hitless after the 2nd inning, quite a chore with our lineup.

Man that was fun. Not quite a sellout but a loud and solid crowd. Today should be sold out. Heading down to my favorite restaurant, Crust and then off to the game.

Had a tournament Friday night "Feel" to it.

Pitchers duel. Love that kind of baseball. Don't get me wrong mash and bash is fun but I love those type of games.
Tate was great but I"m excited that CJR and CKT have likely assigned the closer role to Mason. He looked like last year last night. Eight scoreless innings and the only run for state came on an error for a pick off move.

Offense will be just fine. The pitcher for State is very good. He is definitely their ace.

Still concerned that 8 is trying to pull everything. He's got so much "Pop" in his bat that he just needs to go with the pitch. Parker and Vahn barely missed hr's. Off the bat, thought both were gone as we had a lot of balls squared up but just right at the nc state defenders.

Go win the series today as I can't wait to be there with the chain!!!

Actually NCSU did not score in that inning with the pickoff move. Their earned run came in another inning.

Tate is a big game pitcher kid was lights out last night. NC. State on the other hand does not impress me at the plate with this being the second series I’ve watched them. They will not outscore many ACC teams this year and will rely on their Friday and Saturday guy to hold teams under 4-5 runs. The more teams you watch the more you really appreciate the bats we have in this lineup.
