Patel? I hope not

Honestly, I just want us to stick with kids at this point. Imo nobody had done enough to lose their job. Not Underwood, not Loy. Blakely has filled in well so far and hopefully keeps it up, but we can't keep doing this. There's a fine line between "trying to find the right fit" and just "spinning wheels." And if it is Patel, or Underwood, or whoever else, just put it out there. I hate this TBA crap. Show some confidence in somebody and put them out there and stick with them. Teams are studying all of the guys that it would possibly be anyway. It's not like QB's in football. You prepare for all the pitchers you could potentially see in baseball anyway. All the guys that are potential starters are guys they would be prepping for because they could potentially see them out of the pen. It's cute to do it once or twice, but at this point it feels silly.

I know we were all frustrated with the way the pitching was handled previously, but now it feels like we've gone to the polar opposite. We need somewhere in the middle imo if that makes sense. That goes for starters and relievers. I imagine that nobody is comfortable except Tate. That can work to some extent, but I think in college you have to have a little more stability and defined roles. With what's happened so far, I'd imagine Blakely feels like he's one bad inning away from losing his job too. I don't think thats a good thing for a pitcher at that level and I don't think that's how you get the best out of your guys.

Taylor has his job for a reason. I just hope he knows what he's doing.

Not dismissing anything you are saying because I agree but to be fair Loy was never the #2 until Patel was injured. We thought they were making a change at the time but in reality Patel just got hurt. So realistically the only replacement made has been Underwood on Sunday.

I'm not trying to be negative here but Loy could be hurt. He was hit hard at Pitt and might be dealing with something right now. Hopefully this isn't true but it could be an explanation.
That’s a different story. Pitcher Panicking is a completely different deal and is no bueno.

We'll know the answer to this by the end of the day Sunday. Loy should certainly pitch in some role this weekend if healthy.

Yeah, I wasn't including Patel because he lost it due to injury and then it seemed like the logical way to work him back in was in relief. I don't like it, but I'd be more ok with this if they were just "giving him his job back." But if that's the case just say it - put him in there instead of TBA. I'm counting Underwood and now Loy as losing their job with way too short of a leash imo.

That's fair. It would track with how Patel's injury went down earlier in the season. Hopefully that's not the case because losing Loy would be a big blow imo.

Agreed.

To be fair we don't know that Loy isn't starting Saturday. Maybe Ramsey is just playing mind games with NCState. Maybe Loy is suffering from allergies with the pollen and coach wants to make sure he is good to go. On a side note, is there any league rule that says a guy has to start once he's listed unless he gets sick or injured? I'm wondering why any coach would want to list their starters if they don't have to. Why give any info to the opponent if you don't have to?

I'm not aware of any rule. TMK, it's just a courtesy thing, as well as a PR move to the guys who cover you in the media, and your fan base.

As I said earlier, the "mind games" thing doesn't really work the same with pitchers in baseball as it does with quarterbacks in football. In baseball you're gonna see more than just the guys that start anyway, so you're preparing for most of the whole staff. These guys have pitching machines that they can just dial up to pretty much imitate any pitcher given a few inputs, so it's pretty easy to see and prepare for the whole staff. You aren't going to be surprised.

Loy being injured or sick is about the only thing that I would consider reasonable right now. We have no way of knowing. However, he didn't seem hurt when he came out last weekend and he his worse outing of the season, so I mean ... it seems like a reactionary move. I hope it's not though.

There is nothing saying the guys listed as "probable starters" has to start.

As far as giving info to the opponent, see above. You aren't sharing anything that makes preparation any different.

Saving Loy for the big midweek v Auburn and uGa?

(Apologies in advance)

FIFY. One can only hope we win those games. Given the choice between winning an ACC series and beating them or sweeping an ACC series and losing to them, I know what I'd want.

Of course as previously noted, with our offense, we should be winning all our mid-week games anyway ;)

Some say mid week games dont matter so much. That may be true for any one game but your 3 game record against highly ranked OOC teams means quite a lot.

Why do we have to keep bringing this up? Lol. It's not that they don't matter. It's just that in the hierarchy of ranking meaningful games, they come in behind your conference weekend series - that's the only point anybody has been trying to make and some people seemingly refuse to understand/accept. They can mean a lot if you're on the bubble of something - national seed, regional host, making the postseason. However, again, that comes into play AFTER where you land once your conference slate has been taken into consideration.
