I'll just be damned if I can grasp the thought processes (or lack thereof) of some of the fonts on this board who cannot understand that there is no small amount of compensation to the athletes by way of a free college education, training table, room and board all of which can be valued in the low hundreds of thousands of before tax dollars. That certainly is compensation.

Um funny thing about football, it aint basketball. Gibbs may be good but if his line does not block for him, he's dead. total yards 0. This is why this whole thing is stupid. Players get paid today, it is called free tuition and board. This is more of the stupidity that is invading everything. Keep this up and college football will be gone.

Free tuition and boards is pennies compared to the amount of money these kids generate for the NCAA. Paying players has been going on for decades, just cause you turned a blind eye to it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Now it's just out in the open. College football hasn't gone anywhere because of it so far.

So maybe linemen need to get smart and tell these marquee QBs and RBs what can happen if the blocking does not happen. Not all players get paid 98% play their last down of College ball on their 12 or 13 game of their senior season. The NFL is pipe dream to the 98% but we seem to focus on it. Give me a team of 3 star recruits playing that last down and I bet we win 9 or 10 games. 2014 GT comes to mind.

Holy shiny object Batman, that was an entire different tangent. Who is focusing on the NFL? I'm talking about college kids making money and gone are the days of free tuition and board being fair compensation. The sheer amount of money that these kids generate for the NCAA is lightyears beyond what it was just 20-30 years ago. It's a 4 Billion Dollar operation and now they get a piece of the pie. Being on the football team, while also going to school, is like having a full time job on top of school. They deserve to make money for all the work they put in to maintain a 4 Billion Dollar industry. Christ, I went to Tech basically for free because of Hope. The only thing I had to do for my nearly free tuition was focus on my school work, which they have to do on top of their football work.

He was a walk-on from Columbus Ga not sure if he was listed as a WR or running back but he was also a return man on KO and punts he had a TD in the Clemson game about 90 yards on a kick off return in 1990.

Agreed. No one knows how it will all work out but it may have the opposite impact of "the rich get richer" as all those 4-stars who don't start want to be the BMOC. So they transfer to schools where they can improve their NIL opportunity. Therefore, this will result in more talent being spread across more schools (ie more net NIL exposure) vs under the current top-loaded arrangement. I'd place my bet more on this scenario.

And schools in big city environments with social media savvy staffs like GT can sell more intangible NIL opportunities. That's the glass-half-full way for a GT fan to look at NIL. The associated prediction is GT will have more 4-star recruits and transfers in our 2022 class than ever in our history. Watch it happen...it already is...

I'm not sure how that will work out legally. I guess as long as schools don't conspire to require the same amount it could be a recruiting advantage of one school charges 75%, but another doesn't charge anything it wouldn't be a monopoly. I'm not sure which sounds worse: You are an amateur and can't earn money while you compete as an amateur. or: You can do ads and make money, but you are only allowed to keep 25% of anything you are worth.

Also, how would taxes work with that? Would the former student athlete fund be a charitable contribution? If so, 75% exceeds 50%, so they couldn't deduct all of the "donated" money. If they only get to keep 25% of anything they earn, I could envision scenarios in which they owe more income tax than they received.
