I just find it ironic that it took a loss like this for people to finally admit what others had been trying to tell you. The fans at his previous stops LOATHED this non-depth chart approach. There was a Temple fan on here letting us know and everyone laughed him off. I remember reading a Miss St blog prior to our OB win and the fans were hoping that the 1A/1B defensive substitutions where he took NFL quality guys out so that others who practiced hard could play went with him. We can be excited about a change in direction and yet look at things realistically.
After time to cool off, I am still of the opinion that yesterdays loss falls mostly on the coaches. That being said, I have been consistent with my opinion that we are at best a 4-5 win team this year. I still believe CGC can turn it around in the next few years. We will have to be patient, but we really don't have a choice.

If he's actually deciding who starts based on How They Practice, rather than going with the most-talented player, it's an asinine approach to winning football games.
QB Switching is asinine - it's not debatable and no I'm not talking about a Wildcat pkg or flat-out yanking the starter at halftime but rather the mid-series crap we are doing.
Hell, even PKs need to be chosen during spring practice and keep their starting jobs unless they lose them on the field during gametime. If Wells shanks a few PATs and FGs, fine - let King do the job but NOT because King hit a few during practice, when the kick-rush is light and the penalty for missed kicks is running grass drills (or whatever) rather than losing the damn game for your teammates.
If anyone thinks players feel the same pressure for achievement during practice as they do during real gametime, it's an indicator that person has never played competitive sports.
If you've shown an ability to complete passes, read options, or drill kicks under gametime pressure, you should be the starter. TO and Wells have shown this. The rest haven't. LJ has had his shot and shown to not be yet-capable. As has PK King.
Practice is simply not the best factor in deciding who plays. Gametime is completely different. It's why no 2nd-stringer who lights up NFL practices sees the playing field unless there's been significantly poor play from the starter or injury.
What Collins is doing is stupid.

Not really. If someone is going to say that any coach would have failed following CPJ, then they are wrong. If it upsets people that the option could have still worked here, that's not my fault. I am all for change, and have no issue with CGC, but I don't believe in revisionist history and spin saying that anyone would have floundered this year. We actually had a solid core for CPJs O that doesn't translate well to CDPs O, but that doesn't mean that every coach would have failed here this year. With the down cycle hitting dumpster fire levels at several coastal schools, Monken could easily have won 8 games and maybe as many as 10. Now, long term, he'd probably have a trajectory similar to CPJ, but this year could have been a good year with the 3O. As it stands, we will suffer through 2-3 years of agony and hopefully come out with a strong group of players ready to lead GT back into the bowl landscape in 2021 or 2022.

I agree with all of this except "I hate to admit it, but we will be a .500 team for the next two years..." Winning 3 games is going to be a challenge. Right now winning 6 games this year is just about out of the question based on the current body of evidence. We will see but it is much too early to throw in the towel on Geoff. He will recruit relentlessly and build a talent base but can he recruit well enough to overcome the fact that we do not have the players to match the system nor do we have a scheme advantage that we once had? Based on the confusion and poor decisions made last Saturday, the recruiting may have to overcome poor game day coaching as well. He has a 7 year contract and we cannot afford to change directions every two years like Tennessee and FSU. All of you should know by now that winning football at Tech takes time because that is the nature of the beast. It is one of the most difficult coaching jobs in college football due to its unique mix of challenges and strengths. Its not a factory, its not a typical academic school like Duke, Stanford, Rice, Wake Forest or Vanderbilt which are private, its not an FCS school and its not a downtrodden forever struggling doormat like Tulane, SMU, Rice, or Mississippi State that seemingly face insurmountable odds nor is it comparable to the service academies. I honestly cannot think of another Power 5 or G5 school that is remotely similar. IIWII

Jemea Thomas was like that . Wasn't quite fast enough or fluid enough to play corner, too small to play safety, didn't have the "measureables" (sic) to play linebacker or running back, went to a small south Georgia school, so on and so forth until the actual playing started and damn the man could play ball. You can win a lot of games with guys like him, Shaq Mason, Parker Braun, and others who just make plays.

The Ross thing may have actually been worse...it is debateable. He did tell a reporter that had he known how difficult Tech was he would never have signed the contract. I have always been interested in knowing what motivated him to leave Maryland? He seemed to have a good program going there why would he leave to come to Tech? This transition business is just about always difficult at Tech. Coach Collins has his work cut out for him and I would imagine he has come to the realization that this is going to be a long, hard row to hoe. Best get to it. Better recruiting, better assistants, (if that is what it takes), and a more focused team would do wonders. There are some guys that really need to be running a bunch this week to help them understand we are not Miami or FSU and having multiple personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties is not going to help us win ball games.

Dodd hated it because he much preferred having specialists on offense rather than one platoon football that emphasized toughness, conditioning, and playing defense.

It was interesting.....even playing H.S. ball.....to see how players gravitate to one side or the other. The O definitely had the better students.

It is his team. I disagree with it but ultimately the coach makes the decision and he is hell bent on making the system work. It is going to be very difficult because TO, James, and Lucas are different quarterbacks with different skill sets. Does he mean that each quarterback will have his own "package" of plays to run? Surely, he will not be running them in and out every other series or will he? To be sure, opposing defensive coordinators will be confused the problem is we look even more confused.

I don't care for it but I don't think it matters a whole lot and it might do the players some good EXCEPT quarterback and kickers. The team needs to know who is in charge and the quarterbacks need to understand their role. I still believe he needs to pick one and tailor the offense to that guy. If we are going to throw the ball in the classic spread look play Lucas, if we are going to put our best athlete and do what he does best play TO, if you want a true dual threat guy play James but for the love of God pick one so everybody on the team knows who the MAN is going to be.

I don't think it is good at all. The best player in the position to lead to a win should be playing (unless there is unnecessary risk like having your QB return KOs) You earn the right to play by being the best. It should not be about awarding participation playing time because you were a good boy in practice.

I think in the not too distant future you will see CGC settle on a single QB approach. His history at Temple indicates it, and CDP has a history of using a single QB as well. I think we all need to step back from the cliff and realize we do not have an ideal QB ready for this offense and CGC and CDP have to do the best with what they've got. You can continue to gripe, but I would be more concerned if CGC made decisions based on our opinions than if he continues to make decisions I personally disagree with.
