I mean, it sounds cute and all that but the reality is we need someone willing/able to hit the road and get results on the recruiting trail.

The main problem Price has always had was an inability to hit the road and get results on the recruiting trail so ...

And no he doesn't get attention from having been a player or even for having been recently an NBA shooting coach. He's too old for that to matter to '18-beyond kids. They probably barely remember Marbury at this point.

I have no problem with Mark as an assistant here replacing Labarrie if it comes to that. He is a former NBA shooting coach and how do you know he wouldn't be willing to hit the recruiting trail especially in the local areas. I grew up going to the Suwannee Sports Academy where a lot of major AAU tounaments are. They had a Mark Price summer camp and Mark Price would be there before with Celtics Rondo working out kids still know him.

It was a knock on him under Cremins 17 years ago and it was an issue with him at Charlotte.

I mean, it's fine to have kind feelings about him as a former player but let's not allow that to blind us to what he is as a coach.

Let's collectively close our eyes and imagine he starred at Mississippi State or Iowa or some other such place. Would he even be on our radar as fans? Nope.

Not wild about this idea. Mark is more of a ‘shot doctor’, a technician IMHO. I just don’t see him as a recruiter and only us old farts remember him anyway. There are two other dynamics to be considered also. The first is hiring a former school athletic hero and NBA Star, a guy who, at one time was on many people’s short list to have the job you’re in now, might give me the ‘hee-bee-gee-bees’ if I’m CJP. Lastly, going back to coach at your alma mater oftentimes does not work out in the long run. It just DOESN’T! It makes for a great fairytale type story at the outset, but very often ends in firing and recriminations. (Really the last somewhat extraneous point: If the rumor is true, I guess that’s a definite sign that DLab is not coming back.)

I'm not saying he is my first choice but I'm not opposed to adding a former NBA all star, NBA shooting coach, and College head coach to my staff.

I don't think MP was ever considered on the inside to be fair.

Then bring him in as a specialist in the offseason like every other team does. No need to hire him full-time. Maybe if Reveno leaves but then you're opening up the Pandora's box @Jacket Forever identified. After the first loss folks would be calling for Price as HC. Just like folks are constantly clamoring to hire him now.

We need to hire a recruiter. Plain and simple. Price ain't that no matter what his accomplishments as a player were.

I want names of people who want Pastner fired and Price brought in. If you are going to make an argument at least be truthful. BTW he never even got an interview last time.

I honestly have no opinion but would add to this point that Hudson, Mark's son, played for the Atlanta Celtics AAU team so there should be some familiarity there with coaches, etc.

I thought he was a terrible choice by those him wanted him for head coach. As an assistant coach I think he's more interesting. While his recruiting is questionable one thing that I think he could help is selling the idea of improvement. Being able to point to the improvement of q, lammers, and gueye is a good recruiting pitch and if price could make similar improvements for O and Jose's shot then we could have a real strong pitch to 4 year recruits of improvement and considering we seem to be targeting guys like that it could be a benefit.

Wouldn't be my first choice, and would have some reservations, but I don't think it would be terrible either

You want me to name people who, once Price is on staff, have called for Pastner to be fired after the 1st loss?

He's not too old, and he would make an excellent assistant coach. He could be a non-recruiting coach and someone else could take on the responsibilities of on-the-road recruiting. I believe the limitation is the number of "coaches" that can be on the road, not which coaches could be on the road. But I could be wrong too.

He's an excellent shooting coach and we definitely need shooting improvements. A year from him could make Josh a lottery pick.
