Every die hard Tech fan wants us to win another national championship. We can do it, with or without CPJ....I just happen to think CPJ gives us our best shot of reaching that goal.

It's not an easy goal. It's not even easy for major programs and the big state schools.

Our talent in the 2 deep has been improving the last 3 years. We are getting better, but so has our competition largely. The ACC has really become far more competitive than it's been in a very long time.

I like our leadership and direction. And I think TStan can help raise our game even further.

The president could help more also in many ways. Fighting harder with the board of regents to expand our degree programs would be one way.

Not many advocate basket weaving clssses for SAs. But a more direct path to a medical degree would help attract elite scholar athletes inclined to pursue that path. They can also have to take calculus :p. But if the regents can allow the mutts to open an engineering department....there is no damn good reason to prevent Tech from offering pre-med.

Will that attract big dumb nasties only interested in pursuing a pre-NFL degree? No. But it will allow us to expand our offerings to the type of scholar athletes we already target but who don't want business, engineering, or polysci degrees. The president seems more inclined to be political than expand the institute.

Great Post

We can recruit better by better identifying and targeting recruits that are flying under the radar of bigger programs. More staff personnel for travel, visits, communications, evaluations, etc would help. That's where Bud could assist again but he'd actually have to open up his checkbook for a change.

I'm not content with 4-3 and I think that Tech should be an 8 or 9 win program with some 2014 type seasons sprinkled in every now and then. In saying that though, I'm not frustrated with the team this year or even disappointed. I mean come on, we lost two games to top 10 teams at their houses. We should have won the Tennessee game, but it was the first game of the year and nobody knew what to expect. Before the season, I thought that we would go 9-3 and lose the 3 games that we have already lost. We can still have an 8-3 year, so don't give up or get frustrated with this team. There is still a lot of football to be played.

Could always find another Marco Coleman, his only other offer was The Citadel.

A lot of times we do that and it still doesn’t work because factories get them late. Yomanser says it all the time with guy after guy. We get on em first but usually in the end that doesn’t work.

Then Tech needs to work on closing, have to use alternative methods when recruiting.

Seriously would love to know what these “alternative methods” we ignore are.

Well for one thing you can do what Ross did and basically assure them they would more than likely play immediately (would not necessarily work on the top 10, but you could probably grab some better talent). Another thing is to actually adopt a mindset of winning, no recruit wants to play at a place where the fan base is happy with mediocrity and doesn't want a winning culture. I never said it would be easy and yes Tech would still lose some. Also I think the fanbase tends to not hold those accountable who are not trying to create a winning culture. The fact that there are fans who are content with 50th ranked recruiting classes is a little disheartning. The fact that fans want to take Braine's words as gospel instead of calling him out shows that some are happy with the way it is.

Dave Braine was right about us being a 6-7 win program with an occasional surprise season. Id hate to see where we would be at without CPJ.

Braine was saying that because he wasn't a problem solver and let the circumstances define him. GT is a place where a guy like him doesn't fit in well. We need visionaries - guys like Bobby Ross, Bobby Cremins, Homer Rice, even Spurrier at Duke or the BB coach at Butler who can go into "impossible" situations where ordinary people think opportunity does not exist. And create it. unfortunately these guys are rarer than hen's teeth. Anybody can win 9-10 games at the top 15 or so factories.

And he was making an excuse.

It's really so simple. Recruit better players. I can't understand why you guys don't get it. For that matter, I can't understand why South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, UT, Florida, Ole Miss, Miss St, Texas, Texas A&M, Nebraska, UCLA, Kentucky, Northwestern, Pitt, Rutgers, etc don't understand it either. They need to get better players. Hell, uga has lost two of the last three to us and have to fight for their lives every year against us. Why don't they just recruit better players? After CPJ and Spurrier handed them their asses a few times, Clemson finally figured it out. FSU seems to have forgotten it though. All Florida has to do is recruit a Tebow every year, and they probably win the NC. But I might be wrong. Louisville decided to recruit better players, got themselves a Heisman winner, and it doesn't seem to be helping them that much. It's just amazing. The answer is right there in front of these guys that are paid millions of dollars to coach football. Recruit better players!!! How hard can it be to look at some tape of a 17 year old kid and project how good he will be in three or four years? We love Tech, so it's only reasonable to think that every high school kid in the US would also. I loved Math and Science when I was in high school. Never could understand why the other 90% of my classmates dodged those classes for Drivers Ed and Home Ec. Probably just a local phenomena. Without a doubt all athletes want to study engineering or business with a little calc thrown in on the side just to keep it interesting. So somebody pick up the phone and explain to those 5 stars that coming to Tech is the only logical choice.

Sorry, but my take is that CPJ seems to be alright with his recruiting. Heck I'm sure there is at least one 5-star who gives a **** about academics, just saying.
