Hurricane Maria looks like it's going to take the same path as Irma

Maria is a Cat 4 now due to the warm water ..... and headed straight for Dominica which is my favorite island in the Caribbean.

For the East Coast, it looks less likely that Maria will come close from today's updates. But definitely something to follow.

I don't know how people live in the Caribbean. Seems like all the panic/devastation we get from hurricanes on the mainland has to be small potatoes compared to what those islands face.

Hurricanes don't seem to be as common for certain islands/ chains. I know before Irma Grand Turk's last hurricane was Ike in 2008. Saint Croix had not been hit by hurricanes for almost a century before Hugo in 1989.

Hurricane Jose generated the 30 foot waves in this photo taken yesterday at Nags Head.

Hot Damn! That one is actually heading up my way (should hit New England as a TS), and I won't be surprised to see news videos of the locals surfing the waves as the storm approaches. I'm really scared for PR with Maria, though...it's not going to be a good situation if they get a direct category 5 hit. I'm mostly worried about Vieques and Culebra, which look like they're right in the path of the eye. I got married down in Vieques and just fell in love with the place, but it's not built to withstand a hurricane.
