Of course but one of those islands hardest hit has been evacuated because it's inhabitable, I think I heard.Plenty of people still there.

I don't know how people live in the Caribbean. Seems like all the panic/devastation we get from hurricanes on the mainland has to be small potatoes compared to what those islands face.
Web searched this evacuation thing...I could only find Barbuda having been evac'd. Antigua, it seems, has helped with the evacuees.Antigua which is not in the USVI

Looks like the latest models have it going out to the Atlantic.
Exactly. It looks like it will miss us in eastern NC, but I am not comfortable yet.Guessing more than 4 days out is almost pure speculation. Gives folks time to prepare but is subject to big changes.
Hurricane Jose generated the 30 foot waves in this photo taken yesterday at Nags Head.
Wow that's freaking impressive!Hurricane Jose generated the 30 foot waves in this photo taken yesterday at Nags Head.
Hot Damn! That one is actually heading up my way (should hit New England as a TS), and I won't be surprised to see news videos of the locals surfing the waves as the storm approaches. I'm really scared for PR with Maria, though...it's not going to be a good situation if they get a direct category 5 hit. I'm mostly worried about Vieques and Culebra, which look like they're right in the path of the eye. I got married down in Vieques and just fell in love with the place, but it's not built to withstand a hurricane.Hurricane Jose generated the 30 foot waves in this photo taken yesterday at Nags Head.
