I heard she had to have surgery and will be out for another few weeks. Hate that not only for her but I believe we are a better team playing in the 6-2. So either we will have to rely on a second setter or stick with the 5-1 like we did against UGA. Offensively we are fine but it hurts our blocking and takes players like Fischer and Harper out of the mix.
Oh man, that sucks. I feel bad for her. I saw Goolsby come in for a short time so looks like we tried 6-2? And Fischer played for a few. Hope Soares can return soon. Was reflecting back on last year when Morridge got hurt and it threw us off, tho Boezi did an admirable job stepping in. Haven't seen Boezi play yet this season... man, the competition is stiff.

I think we'll play a 6-2 on Sunday against Pitt with Ashlyn Goolsby if we need to. She played last weekend to see if she can go. I think she's no Heloise Soares, but she's serviceable and is an experienced upper class(wo)man who will get the job done.

Goolsby is a senior but has very little playing time during her time at Tech. I wish nothing but the best for her though. I see her dad at most of the home games; saw that he also attended the BYU game. That's dedication. Again, wishing nothing but the best.

Was at the match. Painful. I figured after the SMU match, Pitt would sweep us 3-0 but in all the years I've been watching GTVB, I haven't seen that level of butt whopping ever, as if we were playing an FCS school. Pitt has monsters players that could play for Nebraska, Texas, and Wisconsin. Babcock, Rachel Fairbanks, Bre Kelly... the fact that Vasquez Gomez, who was one of the anchors of the team a few years ago, has taken more of a backseat presence should tell you something. They hit extremely HARD and it's hard to defend. You can just hear the difference.

Things I've noticed the last 3 matches.
Struggles at serve receive, causing out of system (a lot), bad sets, and bad spikes. I'm wondering how we'll do against the other ACC schools.
We have barely any blocking while uga, SMU, and Pitt were all over us blocking.
Wondering what impact Soares being out is causing.

When the team plays hot, their percentages are off the charts (UF match, uga match sets 2-4). When we get beaten down we can't seem to snap out of it.

There's something going on with Otene, maybe mental. Lots of service errors (tons in uga match). I hope she can snap out of it.
Totally armchair QBing but I'd like to see Boezi play more. Michelle finally brought her in vs Pitt (albeit very short time), but she had 2 blocks and and a kill over the center.

Thanks for your comments. I usually try to watch the matches on ESPN/ACCNX, but had two miss both of these last ones.

That was a close one with Clemson on Wed (Oct 16)!!!
Mendes was sitting out for a foot injury and we were down 2-0 but what the coaches did next, I'm very excited. Logan Wiley came in as center (Mogridge moved to right) and it completely changed the dynamic of the game. What struck me most was how quick she is. And then she had an ace, blocks, and kills to follow. She's a difference maker!

Now the hard part is, what will the coaches do about her once Mendes does return? I'd love to see Wiley play more. I'm also a bit sad that Boezi's not getting much court time this year despite the good job she did in place of Mogridge last year. Too many pins, not enough positions!

A couple of our local high school girls are getting offers. I don't know if GT is among them. Pamlico County HS has just over 400 students. They are conference champs at 21-3. The JV team and the middle school are both undefeated. Volleyball is huge here and the crowd sizes are building.

Got any 6'4" or 6'5" outside power hitters you can direct to our team?

We were down 10-3 in Set 5 tonight and won 16-14? 🤯 What a dub.
We were down 11-4 and 14-11. Valez scored 8 straight points and Otene 5 straight for the win.

I've never seen Collier play so many players. I'm thinking whatever the GT football team had last weekend, the GT Women's Volleyball team has right now. What I saw was that the difference between GT and Duke (Contender and Pretender) is about 3-4 players.

Otene can be dominant at times. She was on last night. A win like that comes from way down deep in the team's true character. Collier should be very proud.

Caught bits and pieces of the game... Looks like Wiley got taken out in late 2nd set and did she return? Was she hurt or was taken out bc struggling?

What a win thought. Reminded me of that 2019 match vs NC State where we were down in the 4th set close to NC State's match point at 15-23 and came back and won the set 25-23 (Kaiser serving) and then went in to win 3-2... Pretty incredible stuff.

I was wondering about Wiley as well. She got off to a slow start and then didn't play anymore even though her subs Pierce and Boez didn't do much better. By the end of the match we had Mogridge back in the middle. I wonder if the fact that Duke plays on the basketball hardwood rather than using a Tereflex floor like most volleyball teams had anything to do with it? Maybe it's harder on the knees or something that made Wiley feel uncomfortable. We really need to get Mendes back to shore up the outside and then have both Wiley and Mogridge as options for the middle. Would be nice to get Soares back as well. Goolsby is doing her best when we go to the 6-2 but she doesn't seem to have the timing that you see from both Emiliano and Soares - especially with the middles.

Another five set win for the Jackets at UNC. Tech was up 2-0, dropped the 3rd & 4th sets, fell behind in the 5th, then stormed back again today. This team has mental toughness in abundance.

With the lineup Collier played, I’m putting money that there were several ladies who couldn’t go due to illness (not injury). There were way too many subs playing that rarely get time, let alone time together.

At one point I think Harper, Boezi, and Sanden were all on the court at the same time. I think that was the 4th set when Duke basically ran away from us.
