Another point on politics driving the bus. Miami loses to 8-3 Syracuse (now 9-3) and falls to number 14. Ohio St. loses to 6-5 Michigan and is still ranked 7th. Both have 2 losses. I get OSU beat Penn St. and Indiana but the discrepancy between 7 and 14 is huge.

OSU also lost to the #1 team in the country.

Miami's BEST loss is #23 Syracuse.

I’m not blaming the rules on the loss, but have we calmed down enough about the game itself to talk about how stupid the new OT rules are?

The OT rules changes were put in to keep players from playing forever games. I believe it was Texas A&M vs LSU where they played 6 or 7 overtime periods starting at the 25 yard line.. The gam took forever and the number of plays was staggering. The changes were made in the name of player safety.

What is your proposal for OT rules?

How many Gt fans if asked before the game started that they expected GT to get the benefit of the doubt from officials in a prime time road game against UGA?

If I said before the game that it was going into a post 2nd overtime two point conversion contest and that UGA would be called for two penalties on those plays (Holding - declined, and Pass interference in the 7th overtime giving GT a second attempt at a win) and that GT was called for none, would you have taken that?

If I asked Gt fans before the game if the called penalties for the game would be five flags for Gt for 29 yards and 3 flags against UGA for 27 yards, would you have taken that?

Sorry guys, if the officials wanted GT to win, there was no way to get that PI call to get a second chance in the 7th OT to win the game. GT had SO many chances to stick a fork in UGA throughout that game and THEY didn't do it.

The officials swallowed their whistles the entire game for both teams. They let the players determine the game.

REFS DON'T CHEAT.

holy crap they are human they make mistakes. sadly many of them hurt us but the refs don't have any dog in the fight.

No time, in the 150+ history of college football have REFEREES been found to be INTENTIONALLY altering games. There will always be rogue referees on occasion, but anyone thinking that there's a mass conspiracy to influence the outcome of games from the NCAA or the SEC or ESPN needs to have their head examined. Only official scandal EVER was the 2007 NBA Tim Donaghy scandal. I think if Donaghy had tried to pull that off today, he would have gotten nailed pretty quickly. Too many high definition camera/angles and too many analytical tools to see when a ref goes against their tendencies, especially in big games where there is a lot of money being bet. Throw in some AI that may start analyzing calls and there will be very few ways to hide putting your finger on the scale.

The calls were so egregious that the only way to describe it is they were cheating. The targeting, the holdings, the pass interference and the fumble all went Georgia’s way.

Plus, if the officials "swallowed their whistles" and "let the players determine the game", how do you explain the DPI call on the 4th down stop coming from the ref 10 yards away that didn't have an angle to see any contact when the one that had the proper view called it incomplete without a flag?

I think GT fans are teenie-tiny bit biased. We see their guys do stuff and we're out of our chairs screaming. When we see our guys do stuff, we are like, "that was close but a good no call."

I'm biased as hell but even I thought the game was officiated consistently. I've seen so many plays this year that would have been called targeting in previous years but have not drawn flags on review. I think it has something to do with a revised interpretation of the term "launching." That is what has changed. Officials are WAY more conservative on that this season.

In the future I think we will see it called more like the way the NFL does it. They will protect the QBs and receivers and let the RBs get killed.

Yes that A&M LSU game was a once in a blue moon scenario. I don’t think rules need to be changed for something so rare. The old rules were fine.

There are questionable to blown PI calls in every single football game that I watch.
The issue of corruption comes down to whether or not they are called evenly.
Gt got a PI call in the 7th overtime to give them a second shot to win the game. If the officials were paid-off, would GT have gotten that call?

Completely agree with you on this. If anything I think the recruits are even more excited after that game than before the game.

Note this does not mean they are more excited than if we had won. Please read what I said carefully, folks. I’m saying that even that loss and the way it happened can be a net positive to recruits.

Here's a crazy idea re OT. Eliminate it. Allow games to end in ties. In a 12-team playoff format (& likely growing)... the tie in your record more accurately reflects your "resume"... than a win (or loss) in the current OT format.

I would submit that refs can do more “damage” through non-calls than calls. Making a call is a second level action. The PI on 4th down is such a call. UGA would have lost had that flag not been tossed. It gave UGAg another chance when they had blown it.

Not calling a PF on the spearing of HK was critical. It gave UGAg a chance to win having (finally) pulled within one score.

Remember, their task is to provide opportunity, not to determine. Non-calls are preferred as they leave a smaller footprint and have a higher level of deniability.
