REFS DON'T CHEAT.

holy crap they are human they make mistakes. sadly many of them hurt us but the refs don't have any dog in the fight.

No time, in the 150+ history of college football have REFEREES been found to be INTENTIONALLY altering games. There will always be rogue referees on occasion, but anyone thinking that there's a mass conspiracy to influence the outcome of games from the NCAA or the SEC or ESPN needs to have their head examined. Only official scandal EVER was the 2007 NBA Tim Donaghy scandal. I think if Donaghy had tried to pull that off today, he would have gotten nailed pretty quickly. Too many high definition camera/angles and too many analytical tools to see when a ref goes against their tendencies, especially in big games where there is a lot of money being bet. Throw in some AI that may start analyzing calls and there will be very few ways to hide putting your finger on the scale.

Yet all those angles show that they consistently made calls to benefit their conference team and missed all but one egregiously obvious PI that benefited us (while missing another egregiously obvious holding/facemask call that should have also benefited us).

Say Tech asks for inquiry. Who is going to investigate the refs? Damn sure won’t be us or the ACC. It will be the conference that benefited everything from them winning and pays these guys to call the game.

I don’t really like conspiracy theories either, but what happened was borderline negligent if they weren’t trying to help out georgia.

I’m trying to bite my tongue and abstain but here I go.

I don’t think these refs were paid off literally but the bias was obvious… numerous questionable plays not reviewed. Plus the dwag fumble near the goal line is typically called a fumble to not blow it dead and then reviewed.

Basketball is the most tainted team sport by far. From point shaving by players to NBA refs literally on the take.

Go back in time and look at the Black Sox throwing the 1919 World Series.

Am I comparing this game to those, no. But I’m pointing out that when money is involved, all bets are off.

We should have won in regulation if any of the bad calls went our way. We got a half-assed makeup call in 7OT and squandered it. The game was not fixed, but it’s naive to think the refs are impartial in a game like this given what’s at stake.

Not sure I’ve gone on record with this, so let’s put the officiating aside. That was a hell of a game by our team. A few mistakes, but generally hard played and executed at a level well enough to win against who is the toughest team on our schedule every year. Super proud of their effort and just disappointed we came up short. Even with all the nonsense if King holds on to the ball we likely win. I feel bad for the kid. He played great and deserved to win. Next time….

They were clearly helping UGAg once they clawed their way back into the game. You cannot convince me those refs let all those things go because they missed them.

That said, we still should have won the game.

I saw somewhere that we previously used refs from the visiting team’s conference and at some point switched to refs from the home team’s conference. Is this correct? If so, when did it change?

It seems like we should switch to using refs from another conference, with both teams given the right to veto to assigned crew.

They were literally watching replays of the fumble. When they do they they watch every angle. How can you miss that obvious a targeting while watching. And before I get the “they weren’t reviewing targeting” excuse, the refs can change any reviewable portion of the game while watching a replay. They do it all the time with spots, fumbles, etc. It was intentionally let go.

either way it was 4th and 1/inches and either way our ball got tipped before it could do anything.

Every single score and every single turnover is reviewed automatically.

EDIT: Next time you are at a game watch the officials after a score or turnover. The officials will look at the replay guy before starting the play clock. If replay says everything is good, the replay guy (in yellow shirt I think) will windmill his arm and the official will start the play clock.

Agree this was most likely just an innocent blunder. But why did he need to pick up the ball? He's supposed to hold it down in its spotted position when the chain is brought out. Pretty bad look when the game hinges on a difference of inches.

Actually, Georgia should have won. If the refs out right save your a$$ on two obvious occasions, plus give you four more gentle nudges to win, and you still lose, you are clearly not a playoff team. By not squandering all those opportunities Georgia proved they are s playoff team

It is blatantly obvious. The refs were immediately found out to have been cheating and they lost their careers over it.

Venting aside, I’m getting over my anger at what happened and I’m starting to feel more sad about the current state of college football. Politics surrounding the playoff are driving the **** like we saw Friday night. There were always single subtle things in the past, but for that crap do go on for 5 minutes to end a game and send it to OT is just ridiculous. The purity is completely gone and it’s just a weird game vying for money. Say what you want about the NFL, but this kind of crap doesn’t happen. Bad calls, sure. Strings of bad calls and no calls that favor one team on the verge of the playoffs, not so much.

Another point on politics driving the bus. Miami loses to 8-3 Syracuse (now 9-3) and falls to number 14. Ohio St. loses to 6-5 Michigan and is still ranked 7th. Both have 2 losses. I get OSU beat Penn St. and Indiana but the discrepancy between 7 and 14 is huge.
