Some of y’all are running too far with the whole, “the refs stole the game” sentiment IMO. Refs or no refs we had plenty of chances to win the game and didn’t do it. Missed and bad calls happen in every game, even in games Tech wins. Funny I see a lot of posts complaining about officiating when Tech loses, and almost none when we win.
Dude, get the **** out of here. If you are honestly arguing that was just some bad calls then you weren’t paying close enough attention.

Apparently the refs were correct about the 1.5. But that doesn’t change that they completely botched the rest of the fourth quarter.

Like I said, bad and missed calls happen every game. I’m quite positive you could go back and find some embarrassingly bad or missed calls that Tech benefitted from throughout the season. It has little to nothing to do with the fact that Tech could have and should have still won in regulation, and in OT.

sometimes you can't out play the refs no matter how many times you do
You don’t get it do you?

If you keep winning the game, and, the game, for all intents and purposes, is over, except the refs step in and keep you from winning, you are supposed to rise up one more time. And one more time. And one more time. And one more time. And after the refs have screwed you over four times, you are supposed to rise up yet again. And, even though no team has ever played a perfect game, and no team has ever taken advantage of every opportunity in a game, nevertheless, these smarter posters than us on here know Tech to be a choking loser. Because no matter how many times the refs snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, Tech needed to be perfect. And if Tech couldn’t be perfect, then the refs are completely exonerated.

And that helps these other posters sleep at night.

Tech won the game three times. Calls were made or not made to negate the victory in each case. All three were reviewable. One was reviewed and incorrectly left as called on the field. Two were looked at (not sure what the hell that means). Virtually the entire sports world questions why these calls were not reversed - including a former NFL head of officials.

Tech then did not win the game on any of its other opportunities that you call out…so you say they just didn’t get it done.

Give me a break…

The “makeup” PI call didn’t win the game. It just extended it. I seriously have my doubts that if King doesn’t fumble they don’t call a hold on the next play, or if Eric scores on that read option they don’t call some BS backside holding call to bring it back.

These are refs at the highest level of college football. They don’t “miss” calls that frequently, and when they miss reviewable calls they are typically corrected (because you know…that’s why replay exists). None of this was subjective. The fumble was a fumble, the ball was tipped, and King was targeted.

I firmly believe that They were not going to let us win that game once it got to that point.

The only real chance we had to win was to have made the field goal and scored another TD earlier to make a comeback pretty much impossible. So yeah, in that regard I guess we could have won the game by taking advantage of more opportunities. But that’s not how this should work. Winning by 20+ should not be the requirement to win a game without having officials screw you out of wins.

I honestly wish I still had the naivety you’re showing to believe in the purity of college football. But unfortunately I think those days vanished for me last Friday night. The game I have loved all my life has morphed into a twisted and greedy abomination that forces situations that generate ratings and money. Once the situation is staged they will sometimes let it play out - but the moment things start to go sideways they tamper to regenerate situations according to their goals.

If you can’t see it then you never will.

Nearly everyone I know, including several SEC fans, has stated that the officials cheated Tech. Yes, we might have won, but we also don’t know what calls may have been made to counteract those plays. It’s counterfactual. We just don’t know. What we do know is three controversial obvious non-calls all happened in the last 5 minutes in UGA’s favor.

Over the course of a season, I agree with you. Tech had some calls go its way this year. But this game was warped in the dogs' favor at the end, when it mattered most. I doubt it was intentional, but I wonder if there might have been an unconscious bias. The SEC front office taught SEC refs they'd better call close interconference games in their favor, or they will be punished, as they were in 1999 for following their own handbook, supplied to them by their own conference.

Bro. Y’all are being ridiculous. The game wasn’t stolen by officials. You can complain and whine about it all you want, but Georgia Tech had multiple opportunities to win the football game. Your anecdotal evidence is biased, I get sick of fans complaining about refs every-time their team loses. It’s not the refs fault. I watched Georgia fans for years ***** about refs in games they lost to Alabama, and yet again, it wasn’t the refs fault they lost. Automatically defaulting to “we got robbed” “refs stole the game” “it was rigged” is silly. Thinking the only reason we lost the game is because of refs is stupid

Gentlemen, its better to die as a small boy than to fumble this football... John Heisman
Hand off to the ruining back and punt...game over

Then don’t read it. We’re not the only ones saying it. That sentiment was splattered all over X the night of, by various and sundry CFB fans… including none other than former NFL ref and current NFL rules analyst, Terry McAuley. He’s an LSU alum, BTW.

It just is what it is. It can never change if you refuse to call it out.

ETA: And it’s not “automatic.” No one said a thing about the one score loss last year. It was straight up, with some “normal” human error mixed in.

EATA: No one is saying it’s the “only” reason. We had chances to win, yes. Any combination of those calls almost certainly would have closed out the game, though.

With two minutes to go? Against Ugag? You try to get the first down any way you can. BTW, I myself never complained about that particular non call, that the fumble was caused by targeting. I don't know whether it was targeting or not, but somebody puts a hat on the ball it's hard to hang on no matter who is carrying the rock. The defender lowered his head and launched. The hat was on the ball, tangentially striking the facemask. I don't know if that constitutes targeting.

I argued a while back that I thought it was unconscious bias. The incentives were strong, to the point of overwhelming, for the refs to keep giving Georgia chance after chance to stay in the game. The fact that the TV coverage at the beginning of the game talked about not one but two different times Tech had a big lead and Georgia “miraculously” came back to win, was a little too on point. Following that up later with Georgia’s “near win” comeback against Alabama was also a little too prescient. As a poster above pointed out, you shouldn’t have to win a game by 20 points just to keep the refs from throwing the game to your opponent. The unconscious bias was to keep it close. In their exuberance to do this they jumped the shark.

I watched an enlarged slow motion replay of the hit. Made me angry all over again that the announcers established the narrative of the tackler’s helmet hitting the ball. That’s only true if King had been carrying the ball under his chin. No, the hit was high chest area / bottom of face mask. I actually saw no evidence the ball was hit. If it was hit, it was secondary and glancing. The slow motion is horrifying. You see King’s head snap and his whole body quiver. All his limbs go limp for a second before he falls to the ground.

The launch using the crown was textbook targeting. But we will never know why it wasn’t called because there was no review and thus no official explanation.

It was like everybody was so excited about Georgia recovering a fumble nothing else mattered.

Only saw it once, and I'll have to go back and look at it again. But one thing I will say is that if the shoe were on the other foot, I'd bet dollars to dimes it would have been called targeting.

There is a YouTube video I think it’s called “Was Ga Tech Robbed?” that has a couple of sports bloggers. If that’s the one (I’ve watched several) it has a HD resolution slow motion film at the beginning. It’s hard to watch. Any way you can find a good film clip on YouTube. It was better than my recording.
