I honestly dont know how anyone could watch our games this season and think the problem is with our offense. Have they been unstoppable? No, but that's an impossibly high expectation.

Does up state jacket = Mark Bradley?

Defense has not cost this team in any of losses.

That may be true. The D has not cost the team anything. The problem is, it hasn't provided anything either.

Overall, starting field position is split with our opponents. So we have to work extra hard rather than gin up a two foot putt. Bear Bryant always said, "The defense IS the offense."

I think if the Defense was really contributing, we'd see the O come along.

I am going to try and leave the stat argument aside, although I know on which side of it I stand. As a general characterization of the seaosn to date, the defense hasn't given up a ton of points but has had trouble on third down, allowing the opponents TOP to soar. Our offense, while performing at about a CPJ era average, has not had as much time with the ball as customary, causing the points to go down. Both are a bit of an illusion.

The offense is not performing to its avg. It is down in rushing yds per game, first downs per game, 3rd down conversion is worse. How many players have rushed for 100 yds in a game this year? I guess the defense is causing all those problems? Is Tech's defense responsible for world hunger and aids? Just asking seems some on this board would blame Roof for all the world's problems.

I guess the question is what a reasonable expectation is. When you say the offense is not performing to it's average, does that mean it is doing a poor job, or merely that it is not doing as good of a job as it has in the past. 2 years ago, Tech's offense was one of the best in history. If you don't reach that, does that indicate failure?

@up state jacket The defense is actually causing issues on offensive yards per game and many other games stats. The defense is not getting the other team off the field reducing number of drives for the offense.

I agree that the BC and Clemson games were low for the offense, but medium for Miami, and the rest the offense kicked but.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but GT is averaging 61.3 offenisve plays per game. That's good for 127th in the nation.

So our offense look good against Mercer? Really?, Against Pitt really? Offense looked good against Southern not really. So yeah the offense look decent against da U, but wait didn't the offense fumble the ball away or was that Tech's defense taking their place for a couple of downs? Against Pitt couldn't get a 4th and 1 to salt the game away. Wait that was the Defense's fault. Why is Tech's 3rd down conversion lower this year? That could be a reason for the lack of production couldn't it? Is the defense great or a group of world beaters? No, but they are giving this team a chance to win and have given this team a chance to win every game except Clemson.

Miami was the only game you can say the offense lost for us.

I'd add Clemson to the list. You can't blame the D when it limited Clemson to 3 2nd-half points and when the O only managed something like 12 total yards the whole first half.

The only reason we had an ice cube's chance in that game was due to the Defense and in spite of the offense. Hell, the only reason we had a chance to beat BC at the end was due to the D making stop after stop and giving JT and the boys the ball back late in the game.

They also limited Miami to 21 pts - the same amount the offense scored. Had the O not handed Miami 14 pts, we win that game too.

+1 though it's taboo to hold the offense accountable for anything.

I referring to the comment made by Boomer. Statistically the offense is off from any year Paul had been at Tech. So not it is not performing to it's season avg compared to the last 7 teams. What are comparing when you say Tech's offense was one of the best in history? Tech vs other Tech teams or Tech 14 against the rest of the world? I know you don't mean best offenses of all time do you?

I do, actually. Tech 14 versus any offense in the past 20 years (since they started doing efficiency stats).

I can't remember which site it was, but one of them had GT 14 as the best offense ever since they'd been doing the stats.

Regardless of which efficiency metric you choose, GT had an elite offense in 14.

In terms of FEI, Johnson's teams have had the following offensive rankings
2008: 24
2009: 2
2010: 64
2011: 16
2012: 11
2013: 39
2014: 3
2015: 88
2016: 13

So, really, the offense is not off from any year Johnson has had at GT. It's actually pretty much in the general range, which is to say "pretty damn good"

We are all fans and entitled to an opinion. I think my biggest problem your opinion is everytime you mention a stat to prove the offense is "bad" it's usually a stat that compares total yes or total points per game to previous seasons. We've discussed in detail why the total yards or total will/should be down this year.

Additionally, the offense was superb against Pitt. I think we scored as many times as could possibly be expected based on the number of possessions we had. If the argument is that offense was bad b/c we couldn't pick up a 4th and 1...then can the say the offense was fantastic against Boston College b/c we picked up the game winning TD at the end of the game?

I think it was footballoutsiders fplus, but they changed their formula, maybe s&p+ formula impacting fplus.
