I've never understood why we treat recruiting vs development as polar opposites. In truth, we need both.
I always thought developmental meant taking kids that were athletic, FB instincts etc. and physically developing them into what they needed to be, yes they need to teach them technique etc. at their position, but I never have thought developmental meant that. For instance we sometimes take a DE that has the frame and make him into an inside tackle type DL. That is what I always thought it meant. We grow OLs into the size we want them to be. I recently talked to an OL that played for CPJ and he commented that it was hard for him living with all that weight and after he "got out" he took it off and he really looked good IMO.

(Arbitrarily choosing your post to respond to)

I don't care how light or heavy our offensive linemen are. I want them to make contact with the defensive players and block them. The only metrics that matter are how they perform on the field.
I couldn't agree more. I said earlier that I thought our OLs were carrying an extra 10 - 15 lbs over their best weight; they seemed to have a tough time moving into blocking lanes. There's training for the beach - from the pics of the weight room that seemed to be what we were aiming for - and training for football. My son went to Lovett. They had different routines for wrestling, baseball, and - for different positions, mind - football. I'm glad to see that Tech is apparently going to do more of the same.

Those were updated weight Fall 2018. These are the 2 deep weight from bowl game vs. Minnesota

Quinney 6-6 276lb
Ivemeyer 6-1 270lb

Braun 6-3 280lb
Clark 6-4 280lb

Cooper 6-3 305lb
Lee 6-2 287lb

Hansen 6-2 310lb
Morgan 6-4 288lb

Marshall 6-4 282lb
Bryan 6-4 285lb

This horse has beaten to death, researched and proven what the actual avg weight was. Was CGC exaggerating the 260lbs? What was the avg weight. It was more like 272

Was CPJ recruiting 260lb OL? Yes

So the 2 deep from the bowl game, the lightest point of the season, averaged 286? I don't recall CGC's comments being about the size of OL recruited, even he had a couple guys around 270lbs, but it looks like about 6 of Johnson's OL were sub 270 coming out of HS over 11 years. That's pretty negligible imo, he had as many or more that were 295+. Gailey also recruited plenty of OL that size. Andrew Gardner was 250 lb

Most of the guys coming out of high school that are 300+ have some bad weight on them anyway, some a lot of bad weight.

As I told you 3 yrs ago. Subtract Braun & Marshall & add Chet Lagod, Cheyenne Hunt, Lucas Patelles and William Lay into your equation from 2018

I remember TFG talking about the need to recruit O-linemen with long arms.

What does “long arms” have to do with how good an offensive lineman is?

Didn’t you go to Tech? How is that average 272 on the two deep? Try 285!

The average of those numbers is 286 not 270. Even 270 is egregious thing to say.

Chan Gaileys offensive line recruits (they are easy to find because he under recruited the position big time.)

2007: Nick Claytor 6’6 312
Clyde Yandell 6’3 304
2006: Austin Barrick (was recruited as a TE) 6’3 247.
2005: Will Miller 6’5 268
Cord Howard 6’5 250
Jason Hill 6’5 270
Trey Dumon 6’4 275
Randall Cox 6’4 287
Dan Voss 6’4 290
2004: Jacob Lonowski 6’4 275
Andrew Garner 6’6 250
Nate McManus 6’4 295
2003: Matt Rhodes 6’4 260
Eddy Parker 6’5 280
Kevin Tummenilo 6’4 290

This looks almost identical to a Paul Johnson recruited offensive line with weight and height (unless you just are incredibly biased)

There are more OL that were inherited.had. There is no roster with 8 OL on it

The avg height inherited 6’2.3 & 272lbs which i calculated on here

CPJ believed the added weight contributed to the injuries in 2015. Ironically, 2 of CPJ best seasons were when the OL avg 295lbs

I have lost sight of what we are debating when we go around and round about how big our linemen where under our last 3 previous coaches. What is the big picture here that we are trying to prove or disprove? And beyond that, why is it relevant to today's program?
When u need fast agile ol, u bring in athletes that have bulked up.

It looks like Key hopes to get naturally big guys (verses work out warriors) and devlope them over 4 years.
