Gold Club Seats

Students pay $100 in Athletic fees every semester, so let's not pretend the students aren't paying anything.

The simplest solution to the student problem is to release all student tickets that haven't been redeemed by kickoff. Reserved or no. Have a standby line and let every student in that line based on available seats. As it stands now, there is no way for a student to walk up on gameday and attend a football game when there are seats available.

Even though I've been piggybacking in a block for the past couple of years, I'd say get rid of block seating, too. When your seat is reserved, you have no incentive to show up early.

They are giving better seating to blocks that show up early. They started keeping attendance of who goes to games, and you only count if you show up by the end of the first quarter. You count 150% if you show up by kickoff. I know my fraternity is big on showing up early (even more than we were before) because we want the better seats. Maybe that's still not early enough for some, but with a noon kickoff there's gotta be some time for tailgating.

The VIP area used to be seats.......they could have easily created a VIP area in the concourse under the west stands upper deck. The lower east side is hardly the "best seats" You get the sun in your face all afternoon.
The reason they but it in the east side was they did not want to upset the season ticket holders already in the west stands. It was easier to relocate students, band etc.......the result of taking the easy wway out is that it looks horrible on TV.

Wrong

The reason they didnt touch the west during the stadium rebuild was because of they did they would have had to basically knock the west down to meet modern day code and they couldnt afford too.

Now some others on this thread make me laugh. Students pay 200 a year in fees. Lol. That includes every sport and phenomenal gym access and intramuruals. Wtf r u even complaining about.

And for the other socialists. Welcome to capitalism. Otherwise go to china.

Ok. I have been drinking. But wtf is going on here. Tech is the best value in major sports in a major city and we find a way to complain. Like i said. The cheapest fanbase in the usa.

Right... The group I've been sitting with (my fraternity that I was active with during my undergrad) has benefited from the 150% rule especially. Our seats are pretty good this year.

The problem are those rows that go unfilled, though... I'm not sure how you solve that without going general admission.

For what it's worth, the south end zone is a real problem because people stand and you can't really see **** from that side. At least in the SWARM I get to watch the jumbotron to see what's actually going on. From the south it's hard, and if you're on the corners you can't tell anything. So people just squeeze tighter and tighter around the center. Watch the game saturday, I bet we pack to capacity and the corners in the south are empty.

The activity fee pays for CRC access not the athletic fee. And they're $123 and $127 a semester nowadays, respectively.

Yeah, I'm not sure. I wouldn't say I saw too much of that... at least until halftime. Riles me up to no end seeing people leave at halftime for no reason other than they want another drink.
It would be nice if we could give our tickets to friends more easily because sometimes not 100% of the block will be able to make it, but we can't give our ticket to a friend without risking the wrath of the Buzzcard office. It's already been paid for and you're right, as of now they aren't doing anything to fill that seat.

Not sure where this is coming from. 13% of Tech is international. 68% is from the Southeast.

I blame a lack of acculturation brought on by leadership either directly out of or invested in a model of engineering schools from certain less awesome states.

Watching GT football is not for jocks. GT football is not U[sic]gA football. We do not (or, by God, at least ought not) try to be MIT 6 days a week and Auburn on Saturday. MIT doesn't have a football following because their nerds are too dumb, too cowardly, and too lazy to bring the nerdiness outside of spaces demarcated as 'safe' for the nerds (by the jocks of the world, for lack of a better term).

GT brings the nerdiness everywhere. We will not stop until everything is nerdy. We had to drag this state out of the stagnation of plantation agriculture kicking and screaming, and we didn't do that by keeping our slide rules in the mill office when the boss man told us to. The celebration of foolishness and derision for education that the traditional U[sic]gA fan embodies is a pernicious cancer that will roll back the prosperity that Georgia has built if we allow it to fester. We will allow no space to be a refuge. Even in the heart of that place in Athens, we have started to install a kind of student that more resembles the Tech man than the dwag. Soon we shall see the hour of total victory. But until that time, we will not concede even the smallest, most inconsequential thing. Not even collegiate football.

Fun story: Starting at the Duke game the IEEE student branch will be hosting a video game tournament tailgate. Since we've been screwed again by the TV planners, it will most likely be a post game event, where persons not showing proof that they were at the game must pay to enter. Depending on several factors (read: money) we'll do some away game watching parties along the same lines. Homecoming has a special event for our hundredth birthday, but we'll do it again for Klempsun. After that, well, I've always felt the basketball (especially women's) games need some stiffened attendance.

You say the battle for the soul of the Tech student is lost. I say we have not yet begun to fight.

I have seen that same excuse used by so many government agencies.....and without and validity.......so feel free to list the code issues. ( Tech lied about crap to get their way all the time.........just look at Peter's Park)

It had to do with handicap access. In this case i actually know its true since my friend did the construction :)

Bull......handicap access is one of the easiest things to make happen. To claim that it would require knocking down the west stands to accomplish is absurd. I know.....because I have to plan for it daily.
That is so typical of the types of overblown excuses used to take the easy way out.

I nominate you to create a report of what it would take to make it happen. Free of charge, of course.

I, likewise, believe that it would be best if those that performed the Study and/or who commissioned the Study for the project provide the answer. Or perhaps the engineers and architects instead of the contractor who was hired to do what the A/E put down on paper - after the Study was performed.

What? Make things Barrier Free? All it takes is a few ramps, maybe an elevator...........I have seen claims like this all too often. I cannot count the times I have seen "reports" that claim a school building is obsolete and must be torn down and rebuilt.......the report being generated by the same A/E firm that will end up getting the contract for the new design. I was also at Tech when the "Peter's Park" crap happened. Campus Planning (think his name was Clyde Robbins) decided they were going to build a parking deck in Peter's Park. Students that were against it discovered a deed restriction that the property had to be used as a park.....it was poo-pooed and the parking deck went ahead....at the last minute, admin admitted that there was indeed a deed restriction and threw in a couple of tennis courts to "make it legit" Pretty much everyone looked the other way.....and students got screwed out of green space. Another thing that happened when I was at Tech.....they started the mandatory athletic fees.....part of the promise was that AA facilities would be more available to students.......not long after the fees were instituted......BDS was gated and locked 24/7 as well as the loss of use of other AA facilities.........it is all about $$$$$

Are the bathrooms under the west stands already at modern codes? In my limited experience, that's where I've seen go-no go money line. Getting bathrooms with capacity for need and code compliance is not always easy retroactively.

Toilets are an easy fix.....and BTW....under the ADA act, you are not grandfathered in WRT compliance......you have to prove you are unable to afford making facilities compliant.........good luck with that argument with the money that flows through Tech and the AA.

I agree with your ADA grandfather statement. The current building code with respect to number of women's toilets required is seemingly very high, in my opinion.

I forgot what the point of this thread was......

Cut off the AC in the Club Level. ;)

I hate seeing those seats empty but you got it correct: The Alumni that pay the big bucks would never stand for students invading the privilege that comes with buying those seats.
The air conditioning doesn't work very well anyway. The Club Level also includes many families with small children who need to go inside more frequently.

Along with ankle high chains everywhere.

And bricks - lots and lots of bricks!
I remember those ankle high chains.......they thought they could force people to walk on the sidewalks.......then someone at night went around with a bolt cutter. :D

Remember the model they had built of the center campus with the amphitheater etc that was on display in the Student Center........someone one night T.P'd all the trees in the model......in scale. Got to love the creative mind
