Why hasn't this happened yet? I know that GSU is fairly young, but they already have KSU lined up to play, and their program started after States. I would love to see a Battle for the ATL, and I feel like GSU would come out and support.
I know when I was in school GSU vs GT basketball was a big deal for State students, but the haven't played in years. Hell, come to think of it the only thing the 2 schools play in now is baseball, and even that is 2 weekday games throughout the season.
This could be a pretty good inner city rivalry, and GT needs to start racking up wins before GSU passes them in all sports!

Thoughts?

Did tech 1,000 at the clemson game??? I was there, and saw an awwwwwwwful lot of orange. Also stood up to support the boys and was asked if I could move is I was going to stand the whole game.

Enjoy yourself because Kennesaw State sometime in the not too distant future will leap frog the Georgia State program:cigar: KSU going 10-1 while GSU goes 4-8:LOL:

You calling it a potential “rivalry” pretty much sums it up. Nothing to gain for Tech except potential embarrassment. I don’t think any Tech fans look at that as an interesting or compelling matchup. We feel like we are the bigger, better program and would be embarrassed if we fall to the level where a SunBelt team is considered a “rival.” Most Tech fans are calling for more P5 matchups, not more local, lower conference/division teams.

I think they should play to open the seasons. I think it would be good to see and good for sports fans in ATL.
I agree, GSU has been to a bowl 2 out of the last 4 years so it wouldn't be any worse than AU losing to Troy. I say this because GSU hasn't played a GA power 5.

To be honest, a situation where these two teams play consistently will probably never happen. The biggest reason is because it's a no-win situation for Tech.

With a win, public perception is that we won a game that we should have won.

With a loss, it's a loss to a non-P5 team and a bad look for the program from every angle.

There's simply no good outcome for Tech, whereas it's a no-lose situation for State for the same reasons listed above. And even if Tech were to win 9 times every 10 years, that one loss would significantly outweigh any of the other expected W's.

I can respect that

I don't know about a "rivalry", but I don't see why we couldn't schedule a game or two. If we play Alcorn State, Samford, and Mercer, we may as well play Georgia State. We'd probably get more fans in Grant Field than playing those three.

Mercer brought a lot more fans than Ga St would bring. Tech was not crazy about Ga St starting a football program in the first place so they would have no interest in playing them unless something like last year happened and we needed a makeup game. Notice we have played the real GSU (Southern), Mercer, and soon to play KSU but not Ga St. We have basically told them to kick rocks.

Ummm guess you didn't see where our first win came from. I say that I jest, but as far as GT goes I missed them during bowl season, and March madness. What channel were they on???

Typical statey thinking that GSU is a major sports school because their football team can become bowl eligible playing in the worst conference in cfb and being a 15 seed in the tournament.
