I believe we scored as many points tonight as we did in any two games last year combined. We still have a ways to go on that side with experience and OL play but we've made huge strides since last year. RB group is super deep and that was key tonight. Sims is such a threat both in the air and on the ground that when he matures and fixes some of the issues he's going to be real good. Hard to complain much about 56 points and 500+ yards. Too sloppy with the penalties but after a month off it isn't completely unexpected.
Defense is weird. On one hand it felt like they were getting beat too often and they likely were. On the other hand the effectively gave up just 21 points, just 7 after half, forced 5 turnovers, held Duke to 3.3 ypc, 4 sacks, under 50% completion percentage, and 6-17 on third down. Guess it was very feast or famine with them.
ST 8/8 on extra points, no field goals needed, decent coverage on kick offs/punts. Bad return game.
Overall this year was always more about development than raw record. After a tough stretch of games and a long time off we certainly came back tonight and made strides in the right direction that we could potentially build on. Next couple of weeks will be interesting, if we get to play. NCSU and Pitt aren't Duke, but they also aren't ND/Clemson. They'll be good games to compare and contrast to how we did against BC.
